What were the choices back then? I don't remember the sequence but I recall Dr. Who, Voyage to the bottom of the sea, Star Trek and Twilight Zone. I watched what was available.
Star Trek was up against shows like Bonanza, Daktari, The Virginian, The Rat Patrol, and Tarzan in the USA in the action/adventure genre. For science fiction we had Lost in Space, Thunderbirds, The Time Tunnel, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. I don't recall any Dr Who on US television at the time.
I have no nostalgia for them and recent technical advances are superb but wtf has Star Trek: Picard got to do with anything? :dunno: Beaming down for a fist fight was/is a plainly stupid idea and as a plot development tool it's just wasteful of everyone's time. :picard:
The original Star Trek did have a lot of goofy tropes, such as all the senior officers beaming down into unsecure situations to wring some drama out of the lead actors getting in and out of trouble.

Absolutely. Individual episodes with a sprinkling of bollocks was an easy dose. An entire series of utter disconnect is another story though.

(Part 2 of 2)

I forgot to mention there are spoilers in these, but I don’t think it ruins the experience. Learned a couple interesting details, like a funny detail @15:04 about Worf maybe I hadn’t noticed or forgot.

Added: I’d strongly suggest skipping the discussion of “Cause and Effect“ (21:35 to 26:21) if you haven’t seen it - incidentally my favorite episode (Rich’s #2 pick), centered on what I think is the strongest cast member (Gates McFadden as Beverly Crusher). Brilliant storyboarding in that one.

"Rich & Mike's 2nd... top... 5... top 10..."
"Well it's a sequel to our top 5, which was really kind of a top 10..."
"...second half..."
"...so right now what we're doing is our top 10..."
"...of our top 10... Rich & Mike's top 20..."
"...but on the bottom half..."
"...Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes."
"...but that's really a top 20."

Best intro to date.

R: It's one single episode of TNG.
M: But it ruins everything.

*Edit. I would love to see a TNG episode titled 'Encounter at Farscape'.
