who can remember the name of a 70‘s or 80‘s SF series where aliens have taken over the world?
It might have been a hypothetical „what if H.G.Wells War of the Worlds had been won by the aliens.“
Tripod machines with aliens in a special atmosphere.
All Humans where equipped with a metal grid on their heads to control them. (except for a few rebels, some of which had a fake grid)

Sounds like the White Mountains John Christopher's book. The series was called Tripods https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086818/
Read the 3 books when I was a kid but never saw the TV version.
