Re: Call for Action to Prevent Gun Violence in the United States
Just a normal Wednesday, but I think this may have been reported because one of the candidates (Harris) commented on it: Boy, 14, arrested after four killed in US school shooting (BBC)
It'll be interesting to see if and how gun control gets on the campaign. I'm guessing it will since Harris calling this story "a tragedy" is enough to fuel "the libs are coming after our gunz!!!!".
JD Vance will probably frame the story as a good thing because, well, he's JD Vance. Trump will talk about whatever the meds and his randomly firing neuron tell him to.

Re: Call for Action to Prevent Gun Violence in the United States
I watched a bit of the law enforcement hero briefings. Thoughts and prayers, blah, blah. The sheriff stepped up to the microphone to yammer about how this was “pure evil”.
Except it wasn’t. That 14 year old kid is the fucking margarine, the diet coke, of evil. He will he nothing more than a disturbed kid who acted out. With the typical American cowardice of an imagined need for guns to “protect themselves”, the fuckin’ things are simply readily available to about any kid who finally decides they’ve had enough .
How I detest such people. God damned cowards, the lot of them. Home of the brave, my ass.

At what point will it sink in that prayer empirically does not fucking work?
Speaking of which, SO spotted on Shitter something related; a montage of multiple Turd Cruz tweets blithering out thoughts and prayers, they were all identical with only the location changed. A friggin template?

Re: Call for Action to Prevent Gun Violence in the United States
Oh, this one follows the patterns, all right.
The feds knew about this kid’s intentions in May 2023. His own dad said the kid had no unsupervised access to their “hunting rifles”.
The kid mowed down 13 people, killing four, with an AR-15 knockoff rifle.
That punk-ass kid didn’t buy that assault rifle or its ammunition. No unsupervised access, eh? Hunting rifle, eh? That kid’s dad is directly responsible for giving his kid the means to shoot up his school. All that was lacking was a teenaged kid with problems he didn’t know how to solve on his own. That dad provided that, too.
Motherfucker. Cowards and their fucking guns.

Something over three quarters of people in Barrow County, Georgia are Republicans. You know, the party that utterly refuses to do anything meaningful to control guns.
I’ll make this plain: If you vote Republican, the dead and wounded people in that school are so because you wanted it that way. You want your guns for all, you have them, motherfuckers.
Quit fucking whining when one of you goes off the rails and uses one of those guns.
You asked for this.

And, ABC News has an update:
Apparently, there’s a prosecutor who agrees with me.Colin Gray, 54, was charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children, the GBI said.
His son has also been charged with four counts of felony murder, with additional charges expected, the GBI said.

And to make matters worse, who should shoot his mouth off but JD Vance? He's just described school shootings as "a fact of life". Er, no they fucking aren't, you piss-brained spongiform encephalopathy on legs, at least not in countries that don't share your weird fetish for guns as fucking dick extensions ...

How is it Shady Vance can eat or drink given the amount of time his feet are occupying his mouth?

As far as I can tell death by shooting still accounts for the majority of mortality among American 1-19 year olds. Quite why so many are OK with that I find incomprehensible.

I'm more interested in the thought-process of a father so careless, than the kid of his who pulled the trigger. This is incomprehensible to me, even in the political/cultural climate of Georgia. Sherrif was there last year about this exact thing, and after that he buys the kid not a bb gun even, but an AR style weapon. What a dumb, thoughtless person. The dad has been charged with second-degree murder and the son with felony murder. Governor Kemp said it's not the time for politics or policy discussion, but a time for thoughts and prayers. Also a thoughtless bag of turd.

Yep, Kemp is full of shit. Big surprise, republican. I wonder when, in that asshole’s mind, is the time for policy discussion about what’s killing kids.The_Piper wrote: ↑Sep 07, 2024 2:23 am I'm more interested in the thought-process of a father so careless, than the kid of his who pulled the trigger. The solution to the dead kids is at the ballot box.

Re: Call for Action to Prevent Gun Violence in the United States
The kid’s dad said he was teaching the kid to hunt. With a fucking AR-15? Hunt what?
I’ll tell you something about shooting.
I’m pretty much just a guy. My eyesight is normal, but not exceptional. I learned to shoot rifles at a pretty young age of eight years old, with a little Springfield 22LR single shot bolt action rifle, with open sights and no modifications. When I left for the military, of course, I regularly had to qualify with the M-16. For one assignment, I also had to qualify with the pistol, a Smith and Wesson model 15 revolver, 38 Special. For another, I qualified on the M-79 40mm grenade launcher.
Because I simply knew the basics of marksmanship such as breath control, trigger pull, sight picture, I scored expert on every weapon I trained on. If I can see the target, I will hit it.
And, I’m just a guy.
I took up varmint shooting in South Dakota while stationed there. With a standard Remington model 700 bolt action rifle chambered in 6mm Rem, I got to the point where I could hit a beer can sized prairie dog at ranges out to 300 meters. One shot, first time, every time.
Hunting with a semi-automatic auto loading rifle? Bullshit. After the first shot, you lose the sight picture from the recoil anyway. The target, if not hit, will know what just happened and will move. Hitting a moving target, downrange, with no sight picture? Not happening.
Oswald got off three shots at a range of 81 meters, hitting Kennedy twice. With a piece of crap worn out Italian bolt action rifle. He aimed each shot. And, he was just a guy. No special marksmanship training beyond what every rifleman in the Marines got.
Auto-loading rifles are really useful for sending many rounds towards the target. Some may hit, most will not. The targets, if they are enemy combatants, will keep their fucking heads down, just in case. And that is the whole point.
Animals being hunted don’t return fire. Suppression fire is not needed or even desirable when hunting.
AR-15s are for pussies who can’t shoot.

I think we should refer to the AR-15 as the "bang bang shlong" from now on, because that's what it is in the hands of many of its fetishists ...

Re: Call for Action to Prevent Gun Violence in the United States
There is/was a guy on the run in Kentucky after buying an AR-15 and 1000 rounds of ammo and shooting people from a highway overpass. Amazingly, no one was killed but some serious injuries.
People take once unthinkable precautions as police search for the Kentucky highway shooter
Previously unthinkable precautions due to previously unthinkable gun lobby putting 400 million guns in the mix, and pretending that most of the illegal guns don't come from the same source, through a middle-man. I could probably make a fortune buying guns locally and selling them to dealers on the black market in Boston and NYC. I wouldn't do that, but a lot of people obviously would, and do.
This guy bought his gun legally, afaik, which is the norm for mass shooting I think.
Also this headline:CBSNEWS - ...The man suspected of opening fire on a highway in Kentucky sent a text message vowing to "kill a lot of people" less than 30 minutes before he shot and wounded five people on Interstate 75, authorities said in an arrest warrant.
"I'm going to kill a lot of people. Well try at least," Joseph Couch, 32, wrote in the text message, according to the warrant affidavit filed in court. In a separate text message, Couch wrote, "I'll kill myself afterwards," the affidavit says.
