just watched Dune back to back.
part one had me glued to the screen
part two was disappointing:
it felt like they didn’t like the monetary returns of part one, scrapped any plans of part three
and made shitty changes to character development in order to cramp the rest of the story into part two.
Well, shit.
Returns be damned, they had a responsibility to a great story.
as an example of the high speeding they did:
In the books Paul’s exile took about two years and he went completely native;
in part 2 of the movie, his sister isn’t even born at the end, where Paul and especially Jessica mostly use the Fremen as a means to grab power.
everything for the big screen is near perfect, the cast is great - especially the Harkonnens.
but they wrapped it up in unimaginative motivation.

That sure removes my motivation to seek part two. We quite enjoyed part one, especially my youngest son, Tertius.
I watched it on a plane which may have diminished the experience somewhat, but I still enjoyed it. It's been so long since I read the book I don't think I paid attention to how faithfully the movie followed it.
