He was in a cheesy Eddie Murphy comedy as well, Coming To America. The 80's movie was the first time I was aware of Samuel L Jackson, in that semi-famous star-studded scene. RIP Darth. :drunk: :waah:

General Sir Michael David Jackson, GCB, CBE, DSO, DL
(21 March 1944 – 15 October 2024)
British Army officer and one of its most high-profile generals since the Second World War. Originally commissioned into the Intelligence Corps in 1963, he transferred to the Parachute Regiment in 1970, with which he served two of his three tours of duty in Northern Ireland. On his first, he was present as an adjutant at the events of the Ballymurphy massacre (1971), where eleven unarmed civilians were shot dead by British troops, and then at Bloody Sunday in 1972, when British soldiers opened fire on unarmed protesters, killing fourteen. On his second, he was a company commander in the aftermath of the Warrenpoint ambush (1979), when the IRA killed 18 soldiers with two roadside bombs, the British Army's heaviest single loss of life during the Troubles. He was assigned to a staff post at the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in 1982 before assuming command of the 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment, in 1984. Jackson was posted to Northern Ireland for the third time, as a brigade commander, in the early 1990s.

Bugger.

I've just learned that Jennifer Clack, one of Per Ahlberg's colleagues in the field of tetrapod evolution, died back in 2020. Here Wikipedia page covers her accomplishments in more detail here. From that page, we learn:
Over the course of her lengthy career, Clack published in some of the most notable scientific journals, including Nature, Science, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and is one of the most published vertebrate paleontologists in Nature, arguably the leading scientific journal in the world, with over 15 papers in that journal alone.
Endometrial cancer was a nasty way for her to go as well.

She was one of those people who become thought of as irreplaceable during their lifetime.

I knew I was going to be beaten to this one here, the moment the BBC breaking news appeared in my Farcebook feed. This one will be possibly THE biggest obituary news item for some time to come.

Whatever anyone might have to say about his Presidential term, he showed his true worth afterwards. I for one developed immense respect for him once I learned of his participation on the campaign to eradicate Guinea Worm, and his efforts on the polio eradication front.
