Dark Souls.

Post by Animavore »

The game which promises to be so hard you'll miscarry from the stress is upon us. Here fellow dark souls can gather to share tales of woe, suffering, heartache, despair and hair-loss. But also of triumph and jubilation. Of moments when you felled that monster or slayed a dragon after an arduous battle filled with repeated deaths and yelled, "HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW, BITCH!?" and waved your ass in their general direction, patting it mockingly.
Disclose hidden locations and awesome weaponry.
Or even just come to cry and find solace amongst nerve-wracked and amphetamine addled brethren, sharing a deep understanding of your plight.

Remember to use spoilers :)

It's a game then, is it?

There is grandeur in this view of life
Where one becomes many through struggle and strife,
But the Mother of Mysteries is another man's call:
Why is there something 'stead of nothing at all?

Can we play in teams like shooter type games? Can I play it without selling my soul to FB?

No. Although others may be summoned into your world to help you take down beasties.

Nope, not bothering with it. Tried it's predecessor, hated it with a burning passion. I play Monster Hunter, I don't mind a game with a steep learning curve and the ability to hand your ass back to you on a silver platter, but this thing? If I'm going to put myself through masochistic levels of aggravation, there'd better be something worth it at the end, and I never saw anything that made it worth it.

Thing I learned about the game: It treats death like Limbo treats deaths. Not so much game over as learning experience. As long as you're careful in combat(the combat system is stellar, btw) and pay attention to how you died, the game is really fun.

Doing well so far. Got out of the dungeon without dying. Even that fat ass dragon fell before me like Moses. I own!

:rage: Bastard of a game! Two hours to go precisely no where. Don't get me wrong - it's great and there's loads to explore but at a cost - cost is your life.
You could, if you wanted, run straight for the boss battles plucking off tricky but manageable fodder along the way. But if you want the goodies you've to walk into the dodgiest looking places only to meet scary, steriod-crazy knights or monsters in serious need of anger management guarding the door or corridor so each sidetrack brings with it almost certain removal of life, and you've to go back and lump your way to the fight again. Now once you've layed the smack-down on fools and plundered these areas you don't have to return so that's something, I guess. Unlike all your gathered souls, your collected items don't get dropped off for collection at the death marks the spot.

Another thing - you can't pause this game so if nature calls you've to hide your hero in a corner somewhere and hope you're not dead when you return. Now that's just evil :nono:

I spent three hours last night in the Undead Burgh soul farming. I've actually started turning the game off after an hour and watching futurama to cool off, cause I'd rather not break a controller out of rage. Where are you, anyway?

I'm just made it past the Taurus Demon. Not without difficulty either.
Speaking of breaking the controller with rage. I couldn't believe I took down the Taurus Demon only to be incinerated straight after by a dragon losing all my souls in the process. I got them back but it was a load of bollox being sent all the way back to the bonfire and having to fight my way up there again. I died twice more trying to figure out how to get by that bit losing my souls each time. As soon as I sussed it out and made it to the bonfire I spent those bastard'n souls straight away then turned it off, for now. I'm on a calm down break right now myself.
