I've often been tempted to get my Contax 167 (Carl Zeisse f1.4 50mm) going again. I replaced it with a Minolta Dynax 7 because I wanted something 'more modern' with all them extra buttons and a fancy menu system - silly me.
Problem is that the mirror on the Contax is scratched and needs to be replaced. Tried London Camera Exchange - no chance.
Proper camera shops/repairers in the Midlands are a bit rare since Jacobs closed..

FFS ....there is no way an analogue system from the 19th century comes near the fidelity of a modern digital system....but that's not to say it's not a pleasant sound from vinyl for similar reasons people like the warmer sound of tube amps.
Fidelity is not always pleasant ....just as a warm glow filter covers up the digital faults in a photo.

And yes I have the expertise to make that statement.

I think it would be more accurate to say vinyl came back due to beliefs about sound quality.
The stated motivation from many was definitely better sound quality, but the reality was probably more a mixture of snobbishness/nostalgia/stubbornness/capital and emotional investment/marketing spin.

Usually when people talk about quality, it’s that one is objectively better than the other. If you had said “people choose vinyl because they prefer how it sounds,” you would have better represented what you were trying to say.

exactly...there is a subjective aspect to music and there is an objective aspect ....fidelity. No vinyl process can match the accuracy and preserved dynamic range of a digital recording.

Just as a Strad may play the same notes with the same technique of a piece....for most it will sound far better than the dime store violin. There is a measurable difference between the two instruments but are both the same fidelity to the written music?

Some do prefer vinyl just has some prefer tube amps or one brand of speakers over another....there is a question of whether digitizing loses some of the over tones and harmonics but as far as fidelity goes ....digital wins hands down.

The excursion of a loud speaker ( dynamic range ) the digital recording can provide would jump the stylus right out of the groove if it was tried in vinyl so the engineers limit it and right there fidelity is lost.

I mean after all, Bose continues to sell to the unwitting.
