Don't let anyone fill your glass without asking you first.

300 notes though!

Did you get an email a few days ago inviting you to dinner with Richard Dawkins?

That was £500 or maybe dollars, it was in Merika.
For me, the value of a climb is the sum of three inseparable elements, all equally important: aesthetics, history, and ethics

I'm obviously not on that mailing list: I got this notification from the British Humanist Association (I'm a member).

I must say that I thought this event looked like good value, given that it includes accommodation and meals as well as the programme.

I'd love to go. Though if I did, I think I'll use the stairs this time.

But you'd miss out on all the fun, then.

Does it include accomodation? I was looking for that and didn't see a mention.

You're quite right: the BHA package has an accommodation option and I misread it. It's another £300 or so for accommodation. I still don't think that's bad, though.

It's bloody loads! A weekend at the Electric Picnic costs less than half that.

OK, I've just booked my ticket for this. If anyone else is thinking of going, two-thirds of the places have been sold, apparently, so it would be sensible to book sooner rather than later.

I'm in. Don't know if I'll be attending everything, and I'm not bringing T_Metatrix, Primus, and Tertius. This isn't so much their bag.

I'm wondering about that dinner. I wasn't planning on bringing a coat and tie. Do I need to, do you think?

 I would love to go, but i may have to be in Glasgow around that time. It would be a long trek. It will be at least three weeks until i know for definate. They may have sold out by then.

I'd attend but I don't have much to contribute. Better my seat goes to a visionary intellect with some excellent positive ideas - wouldn't want to crowd the room with meat when tickets are so scarce.

:edit: maybe I could go, pushing the agenda that Darwin Day be a national/international/interplanetary vacation.

It's described as a 'gala dinner', which would suggest jacket and tie, but I can't find any confirmation of that hunch. The organisers will probably clarify when they send out the joining instructions.

I had a wonderful time at the World Humanist Congress this weekend: I freely confess that I'm now exhausted simply because I'm no longer used to intellectual stimulation at that level for eight hours a day, three days running.

Highlights for me were presentations by A C Grayling and Janet Radcliffe Richards: the latter's luminous intelligence just blew me away.

I met some really interesting delegates too, especially a woman from Uganda and another from Nepal; the former is working on sex and reproductive health education for young people, much needed there (and elsewhere, for that matter).
