I have deactivated Siri on all my devices. I haven’t found it convenient in the least and the potential downsides for privacy don’t make it any more attractive. I can access music well enough without it.

I've already got a wife who remembers everything I say, I hardly need a fucking robot to do the same.

I don't find SIri very useful except for music.
Siri bears little resemblance to Alexa.

And ? .....commenting on something you have not used seems rather thin. Even my oh so skeptical Australian partner gets along quite happily with her Echo ....something she was quite certain she would not find useful ....and her sister now is a fan.
Step daughter opted for Google ...can't comment...I haven't used it other than our front doorbell which I do find useful but not voice controlled.

My comment is referring to the fact that nothing you have posted is compelling enough for me to even try it. Other opinions may vary.

I have no interest in compelling you to do anything ...that is not the point, I don't sell this tech )( other than to clients who produce the media )...I use it and share experience with others that do as well across a number of forums for those that are interested...you aren't so why even comment?

I identify tech trends for my clients and for friends and they come for advice on some aspects..I've been in same aspect of tech audio/video and computers for nearly 50 years so have some insight.
If it's useful fine ....if not move on....you seem to think I'm making a case to buy it ...I'm not ...I'm providing information on trends.

What I do make a case for is NOT to buy tech that is rapidly being outdated unless it is dirt cheap.

4k and voice interaction are emerging tech fields with a high uptake and interest and 5g is lurking ( out in the US but barely ) and who knows how that will change the media landscape.

Again if you have no interest ...spend your electrons elsewhere. :coffee:

My interest is that I have no interest. I will comment on whatever I please within the bounds of the FUA, thank you very much.

The idea of voice activation is certainly attractive, but microphones have their downside; They can be hijacked. Despite firewalls, anti-virus programs and whatever other security measures are available, intruders keep finding backdoors to get in all the time. No system is impermeable. It's the biggest downside of the internet of things. That worries me.

That's nothing compared to when governments get their tentacles into the IoT Prism style. They have the resources to engage in indiscriminate spying on a massive scale. I expect Microsoft, Google and Apple will cooperate with the likes of the NSA. Google is already opening back doors for the Chinese government. When money talks...

Alexa with a screen, the Amazon Echo Show puts more of your senses to use when you use the voice assistant.
The Amazon Echo Show is a digital assistant with a 7-inch touchscreen that can show you movie trailers, calendar, news alerts, Yelp ratings, and pictures of cats (if you ask the right way). We got our hands (and eyeballs) on the Show to see if the screen opens up a whole new dimension to the voice assistant.

The 2nd Gen is apparently a much improved device but hey ...I like cheap.

SInce my staff swiped my HomePod ...I'm getting his Alexa Show to play with.
It's Gen 1 and he doesn't use it so might be a cheap aquisition

As for that smart toilet, Kohler's Numi will respond to voice commands to raise or lower the lid — or to flush. You can do it from an app, too. The company says it's all about offering hands-free options in a setting that's very personal for people. The toilet is also heated and can play music and the news through its speakers.
