The Walt Disney Co. has set a $52.4 billion, all-stock deal to acquire 20th Century Fox and other entertainment and sports assets from Rupert Murdoch’s empire. The deal between Disney and 21st Century Fox marks a historic union of Hollywood heavyweights and a bid by Disney to bolster its core TV and film businesses against an onslaught of new competitors in the content arena.

The deal gives Disney access to James Cameron's Avatar, and also to the few remaining Marvel characters not yet under the Disney umbrella...
"The agreement also provides Disney with the opportunity to reunite The X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool with the Marvel family under one roof and create richer, more complex worlds of inter-related characters and stories that audiences have shown they love."

And, of course, most of the television properties, including The Simpsons...
In a 1998 episode of Fox's The Simpsons entitled "When You Dish Upon a Star", the show predicted that Disney would one day buy 20th Century Fox and would become "a division of Walt Disney Co."

Absorbed Pixar ???? .....not quite. Pixar and Jobs saved Disney ...it was considered a merge and there are still rumours of Apple buying Disney entirely .....they have the money ...
Can Apple buy Disney?
Netflix is worth $67 billion and Disney's market value is nearly $180 billion. Still, it's astonishing to consider that Apple actually could afford to buy both companies at those prices with the cash it currently has. ... Apple would only need $11.7 billion to corner the market on the San Francisco sports scene.May 3, 2017

There is really only one behemoth and it is Apple with market cap soon to go over one trillion dollars,

Obviously, there are no idiots working for Disney. I mean, what to do with the money? Once I tried to test the thesis that money make money by leaving some change in the locker, but after a week I found out that the change in the locker has not made any money. Not sure how its possible, the laws of physics should apply, but that's my anecdote.

There indeed were idjits working for Disney Michael Eisner idjit in Chief....only a revolt by Walt's brother stopped the entire thing collapsing .....there is a good docu on it ....many of Disney's best and brightest ....notably Katzenberg...left to create other creative powerhouses
Katzenberg would ally with David Geffen and Steven Spielberg to create DreamWorks

Do I understand it correctly, that you doubt the purchase in question from a business point of view? I do admit I am not willing to go through every Disney decision in detail.

In other words, what is (I am not saying someone said it ) exceptional about buying 21st Century Fox? Is it possible to lose money on it? Is it question of money on hand, who is able to buy 21st Century Fox? What is so exceptional about this merger? If I had the money I would buy them too. And I know shit about 21st Century Fox. How would you comment my decision?

You made good business move tuco. It does not matter you know shit about the entertainment business. You ask people who know something about it, have $52.4B and make your move.
