The athletes hate him, I mean. One of them was quoting recently saying that almost no one is friends with him. Which is pretty rare for snowboarding where it seems like they're all best mates.

Just watching the skeleton bob. It seems like the home athletes have a massively unfair advantage, since every track is different and the visiting athletes only get 6 practices to try and beat someone who's done the course thousands of times. The most successful men's skeleton bob....er(?) was beaten by a Canadian in Vancouver, a Russian in Sochi, and is currently being beaten by a Korean, which seems to suggest that's the case.

ETA: The second Korean was ranked 24 in the world and has just gone into 4th.

Finally a speed skating gold won by someone who is not a member of the Dutch team. It was won by Ted Jan Bloeman, a Dutchman who skates for Canada. He apparently moved here because he found the competition in his home country too intense to receive enough support to further his own career.

Present world champion. Skated very well. Dutch trainer as well. At least we got silver.
Kramer was a big disappointment. He claims he never got into the race mentally. The salary he gets he should never be turned off.

There's so much country-switching going on in this Olympics. I just watched the South Korean hockey team with 6 Canadians in it. At that point, you have to ask what's the point?

Dual citizens can play for their chosen nation ....Canada is alnd of immigrants and just because they live here does not mean they are citizens.

There's a difference between someone becoming a naturalized citizen of a country and then choosing to represent that country, and people with absolutely no connection to a country being poached and offered citizenship in order to improve their performance at the Olympics. The Koreans are represented in women's luge by Aileen Frisch. As recently as 2014, she tried and failed to qualify for the German Olympic team. The Koreans offered her Korean citizenship (a process that normally takes a minimum of 5 years) purely so she could compete for them. Prior to that, she had no connection with the country whatsoever. In total, they've granted 19 athletes citizenship between being awarded the games and holding them. Some of those do have prior ties to Korea, but plenty don't.

Hehe ..this made my day ....snowboarders and skiiers are usually a bit of chalk and cheese.

Ledecka, who was skiing down in 26th position, is better known as a snowboard parallel giant slalom world champion, and will compete in that event in PyeongChang next week. She is the first Czech to have won that event at the FIS Snowboard World Cup, but she was not expected to be among the contenders in the Alpine super-G on 17 February. She took gold by just 0.01 seconds, despite making two errors. At the bottom of the course, Ledecka stood frozen, staring at the clock in disbelief at her time of 1:21.11

...deer in headlights ...this girl is relatively unknown Czech who qualified for the Olympics in BOTH snowboarding and skiing ( she's the reigning World snowboarding champion in parallel ) . She's relatively unknown for skiing.
She beat the defending Olympic Champion in SuperG by 1/100th second for the gold.!!
So now she has the chance for double gold - one in Alpine one in Snowboard !!


it was incredible to watch her face....."What just happened !!!!?????"

It was far from a "perfect" run but she had no expectation of winning and just let it loose in a messy but incredibly fast run and nipped Austrian by the smallest of margins.



Had the commentators in a tizzy......big grin from me watching her reaction....too sweet.
