Black Mirror

Post by Keep It Real »

I read the other day that a 5th series has been commissioned. I stopped watching after S02E02 because I found the screaming at the end of the episode so profoundly upsetting I couldn't watch more. I also harboured a deep hatred for Brooker for creating such a travesty and damaging my wellbeing thus. Not sure why it upset me like that..maybe she reminded me of an old lover....or maybe it really is just universally mega horrific. Anyway, I finally got over it and watched the next episode tonight. Is Brooker an interminable pessimist RE society and human nature in general? I loved screenwipe....but maybe he really does/did feel that alienated, bitter and despising :dunno:

I think it's more an inquiry into what some current trends, inventions etc. might lead to and prompt viewers to reconsider their views. Sort of a dark sci-fi show.
If you want to see non-pessimistic episodes I highly recommend San Junipero (S3E4) and Hang the DJ(S4E4).

Ahhh San Junipero is my favourite.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

I reckon AIs would beg to differ, regarding the latter. I thought that one was pretty dark. Maybe I'm an AI... :ask:

True, but then the same argument could be made for video-games in general.

Just watched that. Had a problem suspending my disbelief becausethe crew's memories would not have been preserved through reading their DNA - they'd have been incontenant tabula rasa meat bags.
