Seeing as this particular iteration of Dracula was absorbing his British victims knowledge and mannerisms - you are what you eat - if youd bothered to follow the plot I'm not sure what the actor being a Slav would bring to the party.

No it was establishment propoganda. The woman in the cremation basket was meant to represent the lower cognitive capacity of black people generally. She was a dupe. She resembled a younger Diane Abbot. From this one point much can be gleaned with regards the shows intent. Designed for a Labour win to rally the troops of establishment. That Labour never won the election is beside the point.

define 'authentic' as pertains to Dracula? no movie or series ever made on the subject was ever faithful in the least to the Stoker original... and Stoker just pieced his vampire from a variety of sources and grafted the name of a medieval ruler known for hideous cruelty on it, nothing authentic there either.

Um, yeah, thanks for the lecture. Looks like you have not noticed the double meaning in "novel". It turns my remark into a pun, and a somewhat sarcastic joke. Nobody else except for Fallible seems to have noticed either. There I was, stoked with the brilliance of my wordplay, but now I feel like someone has driven a stake through my heart. It's a cruel world. My fragile ego cannot cope with it.

Actually, I did notice, which is why I added the bit about Stoker's Dracula not being authentic either, ... note that the lack of authenticity does not make it bad, when you compare that to stuff like Polidori's Vampyre, or what Byron produced on the subject or Rymer's Varney the Vampire, Stoker's Dracula shines out as the masterwork it is, the last great Gothic novel.

Just don't bother attributing to it virtues it doesn't have, or need.
