I guess it was only a matter of time. Hollywood have been churning out neo-con storylines where violence is the solution to every problem for decades. And explicitly aiming them at children. Look at the way violence is treated by censors compared to sex, drugs or bad language.

There was something I noticed in the utterly obnoxious 6 Underground which I was going to mention in the movie thread but decided not to because it wasn't anything to do with what made the movie complete shite. Namely that the movie seemed to follow a neoliberal fantasy. Ryan Reynold's character, a billionaire, in his soliloquy (using that term lightly, but technically) appealing to a new recruit to join their team goes on a spiel about how governments are ineffective and often can't get the real bad guys due to diplomacy and such (kind of funny now given what's happening) and that he, the plucky billionaire with resources, can help the recruit do such without anyone telling him to ceasefire when the time comes (this was after showing a clip of the guy, a sniper, ordered not to fire on a UN van he found suspect which blew up his division or whatever).

The scene really struck me because it was such gratuitous jingo-porn even by Bay's standards.

Again I didn't mention it previously because it wasn't what made it shite and the movie was too ham-fistedly handled for that message to poke through in any meaningful way. But I have certainly noticed it in lots of other movies, especially the more flag-wavy ones (that includes Saving Private Ryan), the trend of showing the US to be the good guys in the World there to protect, liberate, and spread democracy.

This, however, is fucking way beyond that!

And when they're not pandering to the US military, they're being careful to suck China's dick every chance they get. We've come a long way since the Vietnam war films.
