A belated hello

Post by Fredericus »

Belated "Hello" - having been posting merrily for days, I better say hello.

Another Brit - hardly ever rational, but often sceptical. Never been accused of a sense of humour. What else? Keen on music - as long as it's "classical" - modern languages, yet like living in a linguistic no man's land.

Hello everybody. Intrigued by your signature, Bestiola. Is Heghlu a typo for Heddlu by any chance? :ask:

Do you mean as in welsh for "police"? No, it's a Klingon expression for "today is a good day to die".

Unfamiliar as I am with Klingon I was clutching at straws and could only come up with the Welsh for police.
Klingon seems even weirder than Latin and Welsh.

A co-worker and I used to entertain each other by adding us to the end of words to make it Latin. My go to was thisus sucksus. Interesting that fistulator is a piper. A neighbor had surgery for a fistula which involved the gastro-intestinal tract.

At least it was entertainment. The British famously think they can speak Spanish simply by adding 'o' to the end of a word and shouting.

To be fair, at least the English generally grasp 'uno cerveza'. Of course, that's not because of any inherent linguistic sensibility, it's just that they learn in about twelve seconds how to get hold of the most important of comestibles.

Hello amice, a classical music enthusiast you say. I'll drink to that

The best tutorial for Klingon is Star Trek, of course, but if you want something a bit quicker, this should do, too
