Saw the 'twist' too but didn't think it was meant to be surprising anyway. Liked the world.

I'm the only person I know who complains they don't watch enough TV or films... I feel I must be missing out, as a lot of people who's judgement I trust like these things, but I just can't stand the boredom of staring at a screen for hours on end.

Never enough time... long list of movies & shows to try out. My current excuse for ignoring it is pausing-unpausing the Seinfeld show on Netflix. Hardly ever watch a movie in one sitting. That's the upside of streaming services. Unpause when you like.

I still haven't seen Avatar, or Braveheart; I haven't even seen Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, or Cool Runnings, and I thought they both looked quite good when they first came out! See also, Twilight, Handmaids Tale, Man in the High Castle, Walking Dead, etc, etc.

Avatar: skippable. Braveheart: eh. Robin Hood PoT: here you go, save yourself a couple hours. Twilight only as a contrast for the kind of talent Robert Pattinson was hiding. Man in the High Castle... story & characters too uninteresting to make up for the warehouse-set feel, made it to ep2 I think. Walking Dead can fuck off.

I HAVE seen Game of Thrones, so yay me; never again though, couldn't stand it! Loads of it was really upsetting, and it's just made up! Why do people make up shit that's horrible and upsetting? I don't understand :/

Way sanitized compared to the books. Not sure what aspects you thought were upsetting though, so...

Layer Cake (2004). Didn't follow anything the first time I saw it years ago. Didn't care this time - but the cast is fun enough. Ebert liked this better than its predecessors Lock Stock and Snatch... meh. Interesting to see pre-Bond Craig again, and verify that he relies on the script to convey any charm or intelligence the character might have.

The Cloverfield Paradox (2018). It holds up best in the trilogy, and I liked it the first time too. Never understood the hate. One character is out of place (the clown), but he doesn't break the setting and the way the other characters relate to it. The home-movie intimacy of the first movie is here in the ground scenes, but without the home-movie baggage, and the cast there (well, Roger Davies) is perfect. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is good in the other place, and the forces linking them link the two places. That's the heart of the movie, and I think it's pretty powerfully conveyed. Some interesting visuals.

Dune was excellent - time went by very quickly ...interested in who has seen it without reading the book.
Casting was excellent and closer to the book. Charlotte Rampling can bring intensity even behind an open weave mask.
The big sound system on the UltraAVX Cinema enhanced the movie....especially the Dolby Atmos.
Duke Harkonnen well cast with Stellan Skarsgård who is just quirky enough in real life to bring it.

Movies I have seen recently:

Black Widow - Should have been made after Civil War. Black Widow deserved better. The action scenes made no sense at all. It felt like the action scenes were designed and choreographed before the story was written.

No Time to Die - The end of the Daniel Craig era that peaked with Casino Royale. Dumb boring movie whose only redeeming feature is that it is not Spectre.

The Eternals - I don't know why this movie exists. Somebody needs to put the MCU to bed. It keeps trying to top itself by always upping the stakes to ever more ridiculous heights. It's done. Let's do something else.

Last Night in Soho - I really enjoyed this movie. The camerawork, the sound, the story. Very engaging and entertaining. I saw the ending a mile away, but enjoyed how the story got there.

The House of Gucci - Silly and melodramtic, but Lady Gaga was the highlight. Jared Leto was unrecognizable in his role, which could be summarized as "What if Ron Jeremy was the heir to an Italian High Fashion company?". Al Pacino was totally wasted. Jeremy Irons was great. Adam Driver slept walked through the movie.

Dune - I hated this movie. It was pretty to look at, but it didn't tell the story. There is not a single person who would know WTF was happening who hadn't seen the Dune 1984 movie or read the novel. Adaptations should tell the story they are adapting, or at least make an effort. All this movie does is provide clips and pictures to show on YouTube videos that try to summarize the Dune series. Pathetic. Granted, Dune 1984 is a very flawed film, and very exposition heavy, and makes big departures from the source material, but it's set design, worm design, and costumes, for me embody the Dune Universe. Dune 2021 has lovely pictures of desert and sand.

The Suicide Squad (2021). It’s fine. Skippable, but less so than most of them. Most of the corn is intentional - might be worth watching for that reason alone. The writing is half-clever, and the cast is pretty good, even in a story that’s mostly pointless. That it’s not completely pointless is another feat in the genre.

The advent calendar. Brand new French Christmas horror film. Thought this was great, and the rare Shudder offering that the wife could also enjoy. Bit of a supernatural-mystery-thriller and surprisingly consonant with the holiday season, what with the themes of forgiving sins and rebirth and so forth.Cool premise and good performances.

I went into this not knowing a thing about the story. I really liked this movie. Pro tip: Avoid spoilers.

all i will say is that, it makes me want to go back and watch all the Spiderman movies I missed.

I like most of the SpiderMan movies with the quirky humour and mix of teen angst vs save the world. We saw the animated one last year in cinema and were blown away by the technique....bringing comics to life.

Enjoyed the last Bond...a bit long but an excellent recap.

Tropical low is drenching us ..215 mm up the Cape. Stayed homw with dog and watched movies.

Not bad ...not sure how historically accurate but perhaps better balance than most.


Bit of WWII history I was only vaguely aware of. Dark and moody and the best depiction of the Market Garden gliders even tho it is peripheral to the stories. Gritty in the sense of war is fucked all around with no redeeming virtue. The Canadians landings in Zeeland feature but these are individual soldiers and civilian stories within the pending liberation of Holland. Still not finished but recommended if you like historically accurate war movies.
