I like this idea, perhaps it can also be used to help people who are learning a new language too. I'd love to be able to practise some Swedish once I've got a bit further with it.

Re: Please read - New language forum
These forums are for members to network in their own language, multilingual members to practice their foreign language skills and make new foreign friends, and most importantly (IMO), to help non-anglophones to understand the wider English speaking forum by providing a venue where they can ask for clarification and explanations of various concepts that are difficult to understand.
We have quite a multilingual Mod group who can oversee most of the fora but for the less common languages, we rely on members' integrity to post within the forum rules. All normal forum ettiquette and rules apply to these forums.
Enjoy !

I have a quick question! I've been teaching myself French over the past couple of years but I am still not very good at it. If I post something in French but I'm not entirely sure I wrote everything correctly, could I put my English translation under it? I doubt it will happen if at all, but I'd like to know just in case I get overzealous and decide to try and post something a bit complicated
Cheers

Es interesante que este no sea el hilo más descabellado del foro, a pesar de que cada uno ignora el mensaje anterior para luego escribir en un idioma diferente.

I would love to learn a second language and this would be fantastic! The 'don't write in English' thing - would this include something like,
EDIT: Same question as http://www.rationalskepticism.org/post2 ... ml#p230678
Or would that be OK?Example wrote:"I want to say such and such, is [such and such in respective language] correct?"

Can we put acronyms in the language subforum? I am always seeing loads of weird, obscure acronyms that I don't know the meaning off. ETA is one, which stands for Estimate Time of Arrival - I know, but I've seen people using it for other purposes. What else does it stand for?
(This is a joke, of course - but I really do want to know what else ETA stands for...)

EDITED TO ADD.
For acronyms and other "insider" stuff check www.urbandictionary.com

Removed the "only english" rule. I figured it's more counterproductive.

I was gonna say let's start a British English thread but realised there's a disproportionate amount of British people already here, as well as Europeans, which might account for the good sense of humour from members here

How are we going to stop people plotting in pigeon? You never know, people might be passing recopies illicitly or talking about were they can fish without a license. Do we have a moderator for Cornish?
