Tomorrow/Tuesday...
Tuesday 4 February at 8:00pm
From Darwin until now. A short history of a big idea.
Josh Maher, Phd Candidate in Genetics at Cambridge University

Josh Maher will go through the history of Darwinian thought from the germ of an idea to the fully fledged upright bipedal theory that is today. That's right - the evolution of evolution, its proponents, its detractors, its changes and its victories.

Our public meetings usually take place at 8:00 pm on the first Tuesday of the month at the University Arms, Brook Hill, Sheffield, S3 7HG. A map showing the location of the The University Arms can be found here

Monday...
Why 20’s Plenty

20mph Should be the UKs default Residential Speed Limit (not 30mph)

Who?
Anna Semlyen

What's the talk about?

Road danger is the biggest risk we face daily. Learn about, and ask questions on the science behind setting speed limits. Find out why 20mph matters where people live, work, shop and learn.

The UK is in transition to a 20mph limit. 12m people already live where 20mph is, or will be the norm – eg 90% of Birmingham, 95% of York.

The speaker will bust the speed limit myths - humps are not required and that 20mph limits do not have much effect on urban journey times. Also that 20mph limits reduce pollution and can be enforced.

Plus advice on how to be an effective activist from an award winning campaigner. Anna supports 210 20’s Plenty for Us campaign groups Nationwide, is a City of York Councillor and Transport Scrutiny Chair and author of Cutting Your Car Use, the world’s best selling guide to driving less (140,000 copies sold).

(Sorry about the short notice. :( )

TODAY!...

'God and the Big Bang', 'Is the Universe Designed?'
How did the universe begin and how has it evolved?
Does a scientific explanation mean that we can do without God? Why are the laws of nature so special ('fine-tuned') as to produce a universe with intelligent creatures like us in it in the first place?
Can the existence of a multiverse, a vast or infinite collection of universes, explain the 'specialness' of this universe?

Christians in Science are very excited to be inviting the author and Cambridge physicist Revd Dr Rodney Holder to answer some of these questions.

How it all began is an important question for everyone whether or not you are studying in the field of science so come along with your mates. There will be a time to as your questions too.
The venue will be opening at 18:00 if you want to come and grab tea, coffee and biscuits before or browse the book stall
Richard Roberts Auditorium 6:30pm

(The R.R.A. is at the bottom of Brook Hill, across the road from The University Arms.)

Oh...I couldn't stay till the end of the match, what was the Yank talking about at half time, when he said something about TV sponsorship being announced at full time?

Dunno. I wasn't there at all! Busy elsewhere. My daughter, via my FB timeline, was how I knew the result. I've just watched the highlights on TV on demand.

£25.00 to park at Wembley... :eh:

It may be cheaper to park at my sons gaff in East Finchley, and make my way from there.

Still, 4 in a car brings it down to £6.25 each (plus petrol) as opposed to train/coach tickets x 4.
