1) If space is infinite then is it not possible that the 'big bang' that causes the apparant start of our observable universe isn't a unique event but many similar events have taken place but too far away to observe - both in terms of time and space.

2) To what degree of accuracy are we certain that photons don't red-shift over time. Are we absolutely sure that the red-shifting of light from distant stars isn't due to decay over time rather than them moving away from us. If this was the case could this explain the apparant expansion of the universe.

David Hume cautioned that we cannot assume that a theory is forever good just because it worked in the past. So how can we know when to call a scientific theory "robust"? OK, we can do the observation/experiments and dismiss the null hypothesis. But how many repeats are required to call this theory robust? One? ten? A hundred? A thousand? A million? A billion? What?

You reckon? I'm not sure, it's very likely that he actually did get my 2 requests via mail and is either too busy or doesn't care much. I mean he's probably getting dozens of requests on a daily basis anyways. I don't want to look too annoying if I'd send in a fax now, that's like requesting it for the 3rd time
