Reza Aslan's "Zealot"

#1  Postby trogs » Jan 23, 2015 6:17 am

There never was a better Jesus book. It is damn good at explaining Jesus' context. Being a disgruntled Jew (zealot), basically.

4000+ reviews, 4.1+ average. It really is that good, it completely changed my ideas about Jesus.

We had a thread on that book a while back. I read it a year or two ago. I agree it was mostly good at explaining the context of the time of Historical Jesus, but then he seemed to start relying on the gospels as his actual references. I would not say it was the best Jesus book ever, though.

No. That would be Behold the Man.

I'm surprised I haven't heard of that. I was a big Moorcock fan back in the day, first introduced by Hawkwind.

It's not a bad story. The cover of my book had an alien with four crucified arms. :smoke:

Pardon the bad URL. It seems that, no matter how many times we post and repost the link, the forum software adds a line called "&tag=rationskepti-20" to the end of the link, and that this will fuck the link up.

So, here's how to solve that:
https://www.google.com/search?q=Zealot- ... s-Nazareth

Just click the topmost google result, that will take you to the amazon page with the 4000+ reviews.

I read Aslan's book on Islam. He said that polygamy is only in Islamic tradition due to the "need" to marry the many widows of the time. What an apologetic twat.

Yeah, he went the Islam-->Jesus-->Islam route; he's not a skeptic at all.
