He fluctuates effortlessly between cynicism and paranoia
I think his character in Peep Show is totally based on him

Just getting into what I know will be a dire tale. His Boys in the Boat is highly recommended as well

I'm currently reading Bertrand Russells Marriage and Morals to youtube.

I've found that reading books to post them as audiobooks gives me extra motivation.

What a fantastic imaginative leap to see running an immense aqueduct to LA through formidable terrain from Owens Lake.

I've read most of his books and thoroughly enjoyed them. Liked The Lincoln Lawyer a lot. Apparently there's a number of lawyers in LA that are working out of Lincolns now and all claiming to be the one the book/film is based on.

My favourite American author is currently James Lee Burke, he creates a fantastic atmostphere and really brings his characters to life.

Just been given Istanbul - A Tale of Three Cities by Bettany Hughes for my birthday. Its a 600 page brick. I'll be awhile.......
The slap in the face that is offered by anti-rationalist, pseudo-scientists and anti-intellectuals that infest much of public discourse is a sad coda to what has been achieved these centuries past by the scientific method - don’t get me started

The Mammoth Book Of Best New SF 29

These compilations provide excellent science fiction from some of the best writers in the genre
I end up liking nearly everything in them. Big meaty books as well so quantity as well as quality

I'm reading His Bloody Project by Graeme Macrae Burnett, which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize last year.

Image

It tells the tale through court documents and the accounts of the characters of a triple murder which occurred in a remote crofting community in Scotland in the 1860s.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

When you've finished that, there is a sequel -
