Female Aggression - Girls, Enablers - Clothing, and Makeup

#1  Postby GreyICE » Apr 27, 2010 9:37 pm

I have an ongoing argument that flares up on occasion.

I have a strong belief that giving clothing and makeup choices to children is awful. As background, my girlfriend grew up experimenting with various types of clothing and makeup, and claims it never did her any harm. Now if I have female children, I'd want to ban that sort of stuff in the house, and my partner disagrees.

The argument is that little girls are naturally vicious connivers who are predisposed to use relational aggressionin all aspects of their personal life. I know some of the same behavior has been documented in some boys, but to keep it brief I'm being general here. You just have to look at a group of children, the boys are usually reasonably friendly with most of eachother, and even the 'outcasts' have their own group, while the girls relentlessly ostracize and target the 'outcasts.' Women have remarkably higher depression rates, they spend three times as much money on mental health issues, you know what I'm talking about. How often do you hear about guys institutionalized for a week or two, versus girls?

I don't have any daughters, so it's not an issue for me, but if it was, I'd be working my hardest to make sure that they didn't get these tools that they use to create the relational aggression that has destroyed the lives of so many. When you have issues like depression and mental illness that haunt women, it shouldn't be laughed off as 'gossip' or 'moody girls.' These tools are enablers for the tendency women have to lie, cheat, and betray others.

Am I overreacting, or do I have a point?

Fact: Makeup kills as many people as guns, therefore this analogy is valid.

I see you're trivializing the issues of depression and mental illness that plague millions of women. :nono:

Its sad that such rank blindness and prejudice exists in this society.

No. I just see that you're trying to parody and/or trivialize this forum post...

education-parenting/male-aggression-little-boys-and-toy-guns-t5742.html?hilit=guns

Hence why you took the exact format for the title and OP and changed boys to girls, and guns to makeup. As such you are analogizing boys' guns to girls' makeup, and that's why I point out what a ridiculous analogy it is.

Ah, but that would be hardly enlightening on all the reasons why I think that your premise is bigoted, shallow, and ultimately silly.

Taking the same logic and applying it to girls now, well that's just enlightening, neh

Actually, the analogy is toy guns cause violence in the same way that makeup and clothing cause relational aggression and mental illness.

This might require a bit of thought, I admit

"Thought" and "Self Delusion" are not synonyms. You claim there is inherent bigotry in Paula's post, but as I find none, all I can conclude is that your claim about this perceived bigotry is as a result of psychological projection on a grand scale.

And you couldn't have said that on the other thread? Wanted to make a special show of how ultimately silly you thought my premise was? That's mean :nono:

First of all, I actually do think that relational aggression is a primarily female problem in this culture (though I'm not naive enough to blame genetics). So in that sense, it deserves its own thread. If violence in boys and the causes are worthy of discussion, surely the general 'bitchiness' that accompanies relational aggression and its causes are worthy of discussion (unless you hold the premise that boys are more important than girls, a bit of a headscratcher). Certainly cliquishness and general related behaviors from girls are part of the start of it, and clothing and makeup play a role in that - the flaw of the OP is one of over-generalization and false causes, not making stuff up ;)

Second, a good parody is always fun. I could have posted it in your thread, I didn't think it was close enough to the OP as a subject to merit that - it's a derail, plain and simple.

Third, mean? Someday you'll see me be mean ;) Not today

I don't know. How are makeup and clothing related to relational aggression? And in the other thread, no one contradicted the poster that said it started in girls by the age of 3-4; do girls really use makeup that young?

I have a 22 month old girl so I may need to know this stuff soon. Or should I just give her a Hello Kitty assault rifle instead of dresses?

I disagree. I was "experimenting" with fashion and make-up earlier than most girls I knew--my mom let me start wearing make-up when I was 12 and in the 7th grade. Any bullying I experienced was directly related to my weight and how little money my family had--nothing at all to do with my clothing choices.

While more women get institutionalized, guys tend to be succeed a lot more at committing suicide.

Are you overreacting as much as stupid Muslims who think that their daughter's virginity is a blessing by god almighty and they should lose it at the age of 25, at the consummation night?
If your thoughts are the same as they were yesterday, your retired.
