I'd be interested in any coherent explanation for why reading fifth graders a book themed around gender identity is a bad thing. Don't think I've heard one yet though

The same people unaware of this, are the same people unaware of the manner in which corner cutting corporations have been dumping oestrogenic pollutants into watercourses for 40 years. Which came to light when the requisite endocrine disruption manifested itself in interesting ways in affected fish populations, an apposite paper on the subject being this one.

Indeed, I'm willing to bet that said pollutants are a contributory factor to the present trans demographic. Which, if this is the case, blows out of the water with a nuclear depth charge, the right wing lie about this being a "choice", and compounds the duplicity of that lie through de facto victim blaming.
