That was unusual. Don't think I've seen nuclear war and haunted houses mixed together before.

Happy happy fun times!
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

Pity it suckered more and more people into thinking it is an actual good movie.

That'd be me then. It was sexist in places wasn't it? It was also gratuitously violent, quite ridiculously cheesy and corny throughout. Quite intentionally it would seem. Not sure it was ever meant as a serious commentary on life today or as a promotional film for political correctness, more one of those, sit back, chill out and enjoy some good old fashioned daftness without really thinking it through too much.
I loved it, all 3 times. Hope they don't screw it up with a sequel.

I've never seen anyone work so hard to not get a movie. It's kinda cute.

Vikander is such a treat ....gorgeous girl ...loved her in Ex Machina.

Image

Eddie Redmayne no slouch either. Based on the actual events.

........

On a true story kick....

Image

Despite a top end cast and an intriguing look at storms of creative genius it doesn't entirely gel....but kudos to Colin Firth as Max Perkins trying to tame the torrent of Wolfe's wriing without drowning. No regrets for watching ....but then I'm an English major eh.

willhud9 wrote:Deadpool?

How about the piece of dialogue that goes:

You're probably thinking, "My boyfriend said this was a superhero movie but that guy in the suit just turned that other guy into a fucking kabab!" Well, I may be super, but I'm no hero. And yeah, technically, this is a murder. But some of the best love stories start with a murder. And that's exactly what this is, a love story. And to tell it right... I gotta take you back to long before I squeezed this ass into red spandex.

Implying a) women in the audience (whom the "joke" was addressed to) would not have seen the movie except their boyfriends told them it was a superhero movie b) women wouldn't know who Deadpool are.

The "joke" was not amusing, and made a stereotypical point.

Then the pegging scene during the Calendar of Sex montage shows him clearly not into it/borderline non-consenting.

Then the premise of it: Guy falls in love with girl, girl falls in love with guy but guy becomes Hollywood ugly and assumes that girls only care for physical looks is sexist.

Finally: It fails the Bechdel test despite having 3 really awesome female characters none of them have any exchanges.

Deadpool from a critical standpoint has a lot of flaws that I think viewers and critics tend to overlook.

It's not and was never and CAN NEVER be taken seriously, BECAUSE it's fucking Deadpool. Number one.

Number two. Unless you know the mind of the dialogue writer and know for certain he was writing it from his unarguably, deeply, blatantly sexist mind...I think someone needs to take off their sexism-glasses, because it grew to their head. :)

None of the points above are examples of outright, overt sexism. Certainly not intended. Subtle at best. But, even that is doubtful. But, some folks will see sexism in every bit of it. Then, again...they probably see sexism in everything. Even where there's none. Tough crowd.

Johnny English. My god Mr Bean should stick to roles that don't have him talking.
In fairness to him, the movie had no chance of being good, no matter who played English.

I watched half of Idlewild last night. It's certainly unique. Overall it's pretty good, but that's not an accurate reflection of the content within, which has some great scenes and elements, and some very boring ones. It gets to my "pretty good" rating in a non-standard way.
I think it's worth my finishing it. I finished Johnny English, so anything's possible.

I find it eminently believable that Keanu Reeves is featured in some bullshit movie.

It came way before Mr Bean. Hugh Laurie is also in it, way before House. And then there's Stephen Fry.

Brilliant film and tragic that it's a real reflection of the UK in 2016.
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]
