That might just be the case because everyone and their cat and the cat's mouse toy and the mouse toy's cheese toy has seen the previous movies.

Finally got round to seeing this the other night. Enjoyed it thoroughly although not quite as much as I thought I would. I confess, I didn't know it was based on real events. From what little I've read it seems the movie ignored the possibility of duPont having a more severe condition like schizophrenia and focused more on the man's emotional immaturity and social conditions. Steve Carell was mesmerising. I kept forgetting I was watching a so-called 'comedic' actor. And both Tatum and Ruffalo were their usual fantastic selves.

Watched this for the third or fourth time yesterday. Love this movie. Yeah, the writing is a bit stale in places, but just the concept of a bunch of college professors sitting around trying to disprove the claim of their friend, who has just outed himself as an immortal is a concept that hits all the right notes for me.
We are alive, so the universe must be said to be alive. We are its consciousness as well as our own. We rise out of the cosmos and see its mesh of patterns, and it strikes us as beautiful. And that feeling is the most important thing in all the universe.

I certainly did that!
I enjoyed it. Thoroughly.
It was flawed however. Unclear and disjointed at times. I feel they tried to cram far too much in there. I wasn't convinced by the portrayal of the Vision.I also wonder how people who don't know the characters well would take it. It seemed to rely on prior knowledge (which is fine for me as I grew up a huge Marvel fan) and also the Marvel movie series has become rather complicated. I feel I need to write off a weekend sometime and re-watch the whole lot as homework. Still, perhaps not a bad idea...

This movie, as all the previous ones, are meant to be part of a serie. A "cine show", as opposed to a TV show, each movie beeing an episode. Every post-credits scene introduces the next movie. Same goes here, the very last scene we see in Captain America : Winter Soldier is pretty much what happens right before the first scene of Avengers 2.

I'd really like to know what's the percentage of people who watched Avengers 2 without having seen the previous movies. Pretty sure it's mot that much.

You missed my point. I meant KNOW THE CHARACTERS. As in the comic books , the history, the basis of the movies.

Animavore wrote:I don't know anything about The Vision to be able to tell you what I think of him. He did sort of come out of no where, though, I'm not even sure what his powers are.

Did the deus ex machina bother you?

It did. Among other things.
Somehow it swept me along in spite of the flaws. I think my main criticism is a general one of "trying to cram too much in", therefore not giving enough time, weight, explanation. Occasionally smothering plot gaps/leaps with the (undoubtably) breathtaking visuals and pace.
I need to think about it to clarify my thoughts about it....

Coherence. I...b...but....w...w...wat?? Need to watch this again, I think.

Image

The Last Winter. This is a very slow burner. I'm not quite sure what I think of it.

Image

Muirhouse. Another slow burner, which is shot in a real supposed haunted house and is said to contain real supposed paranormal activity. I did find it very suspenseful, but it came to a rather abrupt end, and certainly at the very beginning it took the found footage thing to the nth degree and there was an awful lot of dead wood. Good though.

I have it on my PC and have literally watched it hundreds of times. :)

The very first thing about this movie that caught me was, that I'd sooner believe John's story and version of things than what's in any scripture.

I loved that when I watched it, even if some of the dialogue was incredibly stilted.

Watching The Hunger Games: Mocking Jay.

Nearly finished.

Right from the start it is so annoying. Her constant Peeta, Peeta, Peeta.

Oh, for fuck's sake. Another idiotic romance subplot. Like, really? They were forced together, when she already had someone and now she IS in love with him. Ugh...so fucking... :nono:

Over a half an hour into Avengers: Age of Ultron.

They pretty much screwed up Ultron's origin story and mixed in Wanda (Scarlet Witch) and Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver) for some odd reason.

Not necessarily bad, it's just fucking weird. And Ultron is weird. His personality is a bit wonky. Didn't expect that. :eh:

Also, Widow and Banner. What the...?

I watched The Hobit: The Battle of Five Armies last weekend. I propose a new law.

Jackson's Law: If it takes longer to watch the movies than it did to read the book(s), it's probably shite.

I do not buy any of the Silmarillion apologetics people are trying to use to excuse Mr. Jackson's blockbuster excrement. I've read the Silmarillion and none of the extra shite's in it.

1st Film: Lovely. Captured the feeling of the book. White orc? WTF? Oh, well. Forgiven.

2nd Film: Felt like it was dragging its feet to keep from finishing the book too soon. Lots of extra, cartoonish crap. Left the theater very cross with Mr. Jackson. Couldn't figure out how he could finish the book in over ten more minutes. Physics? What's that?

3rd Film: Finished the book ten minutes in. "I knew it!" cried Spastic. Lots and lots and lots of extra, cartoonish crap. Fuck you, physics. Very grateful I didn't waste the money seeing it in the theater.

Really? REALLY?

Quicksilver gets owned by some weapons-fire from an aircraft?

The guy zips past an armed gunman, takes his pistol and lays out all of the bullets in a row on a desk next to him, in literally a blink of an eye. But they have him get shot full of holes?
Utterly fucking stupid. :nono:

They were so near the evac jet, he should have been able to sweep Hawkeye and the kid off with him and make it back before the shots even hit the ground.

What nonsense is this?

Drama just for the sake of drama, without any thinking behind it and it doesn't even work. The writers should be fired.
