Mine is Dead Man, with Johnny Depp, directed by Jim Jarmusch. Brilliant.

We were in the middle of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when the little one's friend rang the doorbell wanting to play. :-x

Will, if you're reading this I'm still mad at you for spoiling Harry Potter for me. :naughty:

As the wise Germans put it, "Wie schade."

But in all seriousness, did I serious spoil it in a world where people scream that line on internet forums?

Actually yes. I've never seen it anywhere before. I never paid attention to anything on the internet about Harry Potter because I really didn't plan on reading it. So even if I did see it it didn't mean anything to me because I didn't know any of the characters any way. But then my little one wanted us to read it together so I bought him the entire box set last summer and we've been reading about half a chapter every night before bed. He got the DVD box set for Christmas so every time we finish a book we watch the movie. It's been lots of fun. I just wish I didn't know . . . THAT now. :(

Ah. Well the joy and agony of not knowing context makes the spoil rather trivial in the long run. Don't think about it and it all falls into place.

Just watched Predestination, and about half-way through was reminded of "By His Bootstraps" by Heinlein. I was very pleased at the end to see that the film is based on a Heinlein short expanding on that theme.

Great film. And now I have to read this "All you Zombies".
Here we go again. First, we discover recursion.

NamelessFaceless wrote:I liked The Paranormal Activity series too. And Blair Witch Project is in my Top Ten. I may not be as devoted as Fallible though. I'm currently watching the Rec series and I'm not impressed. I also don't like the really campy low budget horror like Evil Dead.

Oh, Evil Dead can fuck right off. The Rec films aren't my favourite by a long chalk, but I do enjoy the third one for some bizarre reason, perhaps because it doesn't take itself quite so seriously.

Yeah, I'm a bit humourless when it comes to horror. Apart from Shaun of the Dead. And Zombieland. I saw the new Evil Dead, it was OK.

This was to me, but it's not as good as its sequels.

Still good... but the 2nd one is basically a remake that surpasses the first and Army of Darkness is more interesting than a cabin-based horror.

Probably technically not a movie, but just watched this:

Some pretty cringe-worthy moments and statements. Seems to be more of wildlife shockumentary than a level-headed investigation.

Whether you ride a motorcycle or not. Funny irreverent and at times moving.
Both on Netflix just now.

Well worth watching. Very inspiring...the first one, especially in eastern Russia is mind bending.
I like how they are done as well.

Varangian wrote:Terminator (1984). Even if the FX are a bit dated, it is still a very good movie.

Although the FX are dated, apparently Cameron intentionally made him look less and less human and more "fake" as the movie progressed. But maybe that's a nice way of side stepping the issue. :dunno:

I have literally just got home from seeing this movie. The kettle is still warming up.

I liked it. Mostly. The comedy was good, the action was good, but it did seem ...unbalanced somehow, at times. I can't put my finger on it. Anyway, I'm off to see it again on Saturday so it can't be that bad ;)

Oh no I just remembered, it was the train scene and the flying truck. That was right out of Fox Studios. OTT ...I didn't dig that at all.

Fallible wrote:The first film that popped up for me just now when I think of favourite films was Cronos, but it keeps bloody changing.

The other one that pops into mind for me besides The Terminator is Excalibur. Not sure which one fucked me up more as a child...probably Excalibur, saw it when I was 9  I guess my parents figured it was a nice King Arthur movie and didn't notice the graphic human butchery, multiple rapes, warped obtuse Christian mysticism, dark occult magic and bright green lighting gels. Oh, and Wagner. Also, it's REALLY long and slow!

I usually can't come up with favorites for anything...music, games, books, comics. Movies are easier for some reason.
