No, but I hear some of them are being remade again after they've finished shooting.

American Psycho?! It's only a decade old. WTF? Give it a century and they'll probably be remaking movies before the originals get released on DVD.

You're a girl, didn't you know there was a vote and it was decided that you love that film? Nobody puts Baby in a corner!

I'll put her in the fucking ground.

Ha, I fucking love you!

On another note... The robocop one just cannot be allowed... You just fucking know they won't include the immortal line "Well give the man a hand"

I think that the limits of stop-motion animation actually worked in favour of the original... the technique was just perfect for bringing ED209 to life. And because it was time-consuming to do, the stop-motion wasn't overused. The remake will, of course, be done with CG... and it's very possible that they'll just go overboard with the FX.
Shit, I shudder at the thought of Robocop looking like another #*x*+#-ing Transformers movie.

Yes, I'm already getting indigestion at the thought of Michael Bay doing it...though it couldn't be much worse than when Frank Miller had a go.

I agree that the stop motion animation was seriously cool in the original Robocop, but I think the biggest loss to a remake would be Verhoven's dark as hell social commentary that most folks didn't even get the first time around, not to mention some of the most truly depraved violence ever seen on film.

Scarface (1983) is actually a remake of Scarface (1932)! I had no idea but it makes me rethink my initial disgust at warming over treasured favourites. Some remakes become classics of their own... some do.

Dredd - Considering how bad the movie was an how awesome the comic is, I'm hopeful for this one.
Red Dawn -
Evil Dead - :what: So are they going to remake the first one, or the remake?
House Party -
Mad Max: Fury Road - If you got the makers of Fallout to do a Mad Max movie, it could be good.
Short Circuit - I must admit, I'm curious about this one. Watched it way too many times as a kid, liked the concept even though the movie itself was dumb as hell.
Drop Dead Fred - :ill:
Starship Troopers - Same problem with Robocop: no Verhoven, no substance. Ho hum.
The NeverEnding Story - This COULD be awesome. It probably won't be.
The Seven Samurai - I was wondering when someone was going to get around to remaking this one. Whoever agrees to direct this one is going to need balls of steel, the fans will be ruthless.
WarGames - Agreed with CookieJon. This film's remake date expired on December 31, 1989.
Battle Royale - Didn't they already remake this? Oh nevermind, I was thinking of Hunger Games
Time Bandits - Ah...no.
Commando - Potentially the best movie ever, though overcoming the handicap of not having Arnie will be difficult.
Escape From New York - Noooooooooo...check that, even if the movie is awful, get Daft Punk to do the soundtrack, THAT would be awesome :dopey:
Heavy Metal - Movie might be better, but soundtrack probably won't touch the original.
Lethal Weapon - As long as they get Joe Pesci in it, I'm down.
Romancing the Stone - :drunk:
Scarface - Oh, are they going to give it a plot and some characters this time around?
The Wild Bunch - This has practically no chance of being good.
Yellow Submarine - :what:

For some unknown reason I watched RoboCop 1 to 3 this weekend. The stop motion thing was just bad for it's time (in 2 and 3 anyway). Honestly I might have given it a pass, but in RoboCop 3 where he is flying about it looks fucking ridiculous and this film was made two years AFTER Terminator 2. Two fucking years AFTER!!!!!

Actually...
[Robocop 3] was filmed in 1991, but was not released until end of 1993 due to production company Orion going bankrupt.

Another remake (sort of) is Jack The Giant Killer...

It's a remake in name only. The 1962 original, unlike the new movie, was not based on the fable of Jack and the Beanstalk. (Rather, it was a shameless rip-off of Ray Harryhausen's excellent 7th Voyage of Sinbad). Here's the trailer. If you thought the stop-motion animation in Robocop was poor, wait till you see this! Good for a giggle...

Hmmm, I didn't know that. Interesting. Still fucking lame though.

Can't really beat the first one. All in all I think a remake of this should be enjoyable as long as they rekindle the blood lust of the first.

Weren't they going to remake 'The Long Good Friday" a few years back? Forunately, it seems to have died on it's arse.

I think you'll find the remake is being made while it is still being shot - same set, so cheaper

Whenever a movie studio announces plans for another remake, the reaction among fans and pundits is always the same: Hollywood doesn't have any new ideas.

But we like to look on the bright side of things, which is why we're so happy when we hear of a cool remake or reboot. Hey, who needs new ideas when there are already so many great old ideas waiting to be rediscovered?

With that in mind, we've compiled a list of 50 -- that's right, 50! -- upcoming Hollywood remakes that tickle our fancy. Because if these films were good the first time, you never know, you might just enjoy them even more the second time around.

From here.

I wouldn't mind seeing Starship Troopers done again if it has more to do with the story Heinlein actually wrote and the points he was making this time around. For instance, the reality of how a culture changes drastically within a few decades as opposed to the static culture of the movie.

I think a couple that missed the list were Spider-Man and Total Recall. I've got to agree with Roger Ebert that it shows how "speeded up" our world has become that Hollywood is remaking a movie like Spider-Man that was made only ten years ago.

Roger Ebert is a douche box. If he saw the same "original" Spiderman series I saw, he'd be begging for them to remake it (and preferably burn the original trilogy in the fiery depths of the sun).

Ugh.

Robocop could do well since the social commentary lifts straight out of the 80s. The theme of privatising essential public services, striking public servants and criminal CEOs is still relevant, and the idea of ED209 and other omniconsumer products as government subsidized, failed tech bubbles is still delicious: "I had a guaranteed military sale with ED-209. Renovation program. Spare parts for 25 years. Who cares if it worked or not?"

But it will likely get played too heavy-handedly, will completely lose Verhoeven's sense of humour, and will likely, as you say, be an excuse to overuse some shitty CGI. Same goes for Starship Troopers.
Here we go again. First, we discover recursion.

There's an overload of crap in that list that shouldn't have been made in the first place, let alone reprised.

ETA although The Seven Samurai is one of the greatest films ever made.
