What about us southerners, eh? No summer solstice wishes for us?
Fine! Be that way! See if we care!

I don't think there's a summer version of this song for the lands down under.
Lana will have to do.

Roast in hell ;)
I can say that as partner is currently cooking in Cairns and not on the stove. :coffee:
..meanwhile the weather witches are brewing up a snow storm for today.

Right now it's overcast... low cloud, gray sky... but no snow forecast, to use an understatement.
Our version of 'Christmas weather' is sauna-like heat and humidity.
Don't need to warm the rum... butter melts by itself straight out of the fridge.

I get a shitload of ants in here in the summer. Red, brown ones, black ones, big ones, small ones, fast ones, etc. Caddis flies too. I think they were coming in through my air conditioner. :nono:

After years of doing it, I still get nothing but weird looks when I say "darkest days to you too" to anyone who says "merry christmas" or equivalent to me.
Still, worth it. I like making life bit weirder for everyone. :]
Well that was awkward.

Well these are the darkest days, especially where you are. That's about what I'd say to that, probably after doing a double-take.

Ho Ho HO ....

#12  Postby Macdoc » Dec 22, 2017 2:34 am

Me playing surrogate granpa since none of my own on any horizon....son of one of my perennially broke staff ..
HO heaven …we got chatting about HO sets etc and 5 year old Lief being nuts about them so I checked Kiji ,

Should give Lief and Peter a lot of hours of fun

That one CP Rail locomotive goes for $130 on it’s own
http://www.modellerschoice.com/DesktopD ... ctid=19816

and it looks like there is a complete Chattanooga steam train set with buildings etc.

……got the entire system for $165,,,,my Solstice good deed of the day.

The seller and his dad showed up for the hand- off to my kid so I sent them a thankyou note ....couple more generations of enjoyment .....hmmmph never had this gooda train set when I was a kid ;)

Conned my own somewhat spoiled kid into picking them up

Should be a very happy Lief and made me feel good on such a winters day .....

neat ..

If it wasn't so busy this time of year I'd be setting up that Chattanooga layout in the office....

If you like miniature locomotives you might enjoy this 4-and-a-half minute "making of" video...
The train smash sequence in the movie Hugo was done mostly "in miniature" (i.e. with a model train in a model station). Actors were composited in and some dust and debris effects were added digitally, but it's mostly workshop-made models. It's around the halfway mark that the craftsmanship becomes almost ridiculously impressive... miniature bicycle, miniature baggage carts, miniature suitcases packed with miniature clothing, etc...

I loved trains as a kid. I also had "Electric trucking" sets, which were the coolest.

That about sums it up.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!
