High Fibre Cereal

#1  Postby Alan B » May 19, 2020 12:29 pm

I have Kellog's All Bran Original for breakfast (about 27% fibre). I need this high fibre product for me to, er, 'work properly'. :snooty:

I haven't been able to buy any for 3 or 4 weeks from the local supermarkets (even Amazon are nil stock).

So, I rang Kellog's to find out why. Apparenly, they have experienced a 'toilet roll' situation (weird) which took them quite by surprise. They are addressing the situation.(Their other brands of cereal seem OK, but they are lower in fibre).

I did find a packet on ebay but they wanted £21 postage to ship from the States.

(Other brands appear to have only about 15% fibre or less).

Don't eat brain. It's not healthy to eat brain in this day and age, not even a brand name like All-Brain. There was a time when brain was a good source of (moral) fiber, but not anymore.
It's safer to eat rolled oafs. Or you can have toasted oafs, in the form of musely. But the muses of today aren't as good as the ones of yesteryear.

to me, your best option would be one of the lower fibre options and add wheatbran, which is usually 30%+

there is this on amazon but takes a week or so to arrive

Yes, :this:

Also oats (in the form of muesli, instant oats porridge, etc.)
Also wholewheat bread flour if one is prepared to do some baking (e.g. wholewheat scones / biscuits).
Also fruits and vegetables. Like bran, these contain the cellulose and hemicellulose that constitute coarse fibre ("roughage"), albeit less than in bran.
Fruits also contain a 'bonus' soluble fibre (e.g. pectin).

Beans of any sort are cheap and I assume plentiful. Cook up a thick soup. Any of those packaged cereals are a rip off.

I like original Fiber One brand, the one that looks and tastes like rabbit food. It works. Image

I'm not even sure what's healthy when it comes to pooping, but I don't tend to have any kind of breakfast including cereal and - just as the sun rises every day...

Maybe look for other sources of fibre other than breakfast cereal.

It's convenient. With this lockdown and with me being in the extremely vulnerable situation healthwise, I cannot visit shops to browse and pick 'n choose.
I can sort out what essentials I need to buy via a very helpful friend.

My main point in the OP was not to ask advise on what to eat for breakfast, (appreciated), but to query the odd situation of this one particular brand disapearing from the shelves nationwide in the manner of the toilet roll fiasco. Other brands of cereal are still available and appear to be unaffected.

Anyone else notice this?

Where I live (other side of the world) we're getting occasional weirdness with runs on certain types of food. One day the supermarkets will have no eggs, but then a week later that's back to normal but now there's no rice, then the next week it's hard to get canned tomatoes, but easy to get rice or eggs.

I think what's going on is that transport logistics are a bit fucked up by the manufacturers/suppliers and trucking companies changing their regular practices to make them COVID-safe, so occasionally there are glitches in the resupply chain. And then when people see the supermarket getting low on a product, they swoop in and stock up on it in case it runs out (which makes it run out!).

Either that, or some genius on Facebook has decided fibre prevents coronaviruses!

I rang Kellog's to ask if they had a problem. They confirmed only on this one product: it disapeard from the shelves across the UK for the last 4 or 5 weeks. They don't know why and they are struggling to sort it out. It isn't a sort of 'one week off, next week on' situation.

Weird.

Yes. That only has 11% fibre. The missing All Bran Original has about 27/29% fibre.

All Bran Original 27% Fibre (750g) This is the one that is missing. At Amazon it is 'Currently Unavailable'. They offer the 'Gut' version (500g) from the US with £18 to £21 postage for one pack...
Bran Flakes 14% Fibre
Fruit 'n Fibre 9% Fibre
There is more than one All Bran Original - most have about 9% to 14% fibre

In the last link, most of the items are from the US (Walmart, et al). They seem to be lax in providing the nutrition information e.g. 'a cup of this or half a cup of that'.

both those products - the one you link to, and mine, have the same packaging, down to the back of the product box and top image...the ingredients list is the same and the g of bran per 100g is the same

not for a minute saying you're wrong, i'm just confused...you know your 'movement' needs better than i...;)

This is confusing. If you look at the picture of the nutrition info. on the box it says 27% fibre. But if you click on the link 'show product details' it says 11% fibre...
