Robert Gabriel Mugabe
(21 February1924 – 6 September 2019)
Zimbabwean revolutionary and politician who served as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe from 1980 to 1987 and then as President from 1987 to 2017. He chaired the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) group from 1975 to 1980 and led its successor political party, the ZANU – Patriotic Front (ZANU–PF), from 1980 to 2017. Ideologically an African nationalist, during the 1970s and 1980s he identified as a Marxist–Leninist, and as a socialist after the 1990s. His policies have been described as Mugabeism.

‘A thread to mark the passing of some notable folk.’
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

Yes, I read the "R.I.P" as a metonym for "someone has died". People who object to the inclusion of Mugabe are the type of people who have complained about the presence of Adolf Hitler (1938), Joseph Stalin (1939 & 1942) and Ayatullah Khomeini (1979) among the list of Time Magazine's Man of the Year series.

Can't help your newspeak delusions ..Rest In Peace ...
I doubt many would wish that for Mugabe and it does a disservice to be included with the generally decent humans whose passing is a loss to humanity and observed here..

And Good Fucking Riddance

the thread is there for a reason - don't despoil this one for the sake of being argumentative assholes.

You're a bit slower in the comprehension department than I thought. Look up the meaning of metonym, then read my post again.

Who cares what many would wish? Frankly who cares what your personal judgement of a loss to humanity is? The OP mentions nothing but “notable”. If you’re not sure what that means, there are dictionaries.

And Good Fucking Riddance

http://www.rationalskepticism.org/post2 ... l#p2712633
the thread is there for a reason

And that reason is to give people a place to say how glad they are that someone has died, because the world is better off that way. That doesn’t preclude someone else posting here, as a simple posting of a notable person who died.

- don't despoil this one for the sake of being argumentative assholes.

Try and disagree with someone without becoming instantly and needlessly hostile. Thank you.

Now as far as I’m aware, there is no need to send submissions for this thread to you first for approval. The person who posted Robert Mugabe here did nothing that would qualify him for the sobriquet of “argumentative arsehole”. That would be you, when you decided to share the moral judgement you made on behalf of the forum, kind soul that you are, and in such a calm and polite fashion. People who have opinions to share about their pleasure at someone’s demise can post in the other thread if they wish. If someone else wants to put their name here, they can. Kindly keep your moralising to yourself. Either that, or become more accustomed to being mildly challenged. Either is fine with me.

Oh...and just a side note, but DougC, who added Mugabe here, also created the thread and no doubt knew what he wanted it to be, so I guess it’s fine here.

R.I.P. (in this case) = Raped in Purgatory
I have NO BELIEF in the existence of a God or gods. I do not have to offer evidence nor do I have to determine absence of evidence because I do not ASSERT that a God does or does not or gods do or do not exist.

Bill Ludlow passed away on Sunday. He was an educator a paleontologist, and w a wonderful warrior in the fight against creationism.

A brilliant gentle man who invested all of his last moments volunteering at museums and in the field to introduce children to the evolution of man. He made his last video just three weeks before losing the battle to the cancer he knew he had but told none of us about. He was out in the fields hunting fossils with a bunch of kids just a month ago.

Give him a nod and check out his videos.

Oh shit. He managed to become pretty well known even here in the UK. Always struck me as being an old school professional of the sort we're increasingly missing ...
