Tech Eye - http://www.techeye.net/internet/dawkins ... ternet-war

He will continue his purge his website of this “vicious element”. If only there were a similar system of autocratic control on humanity which could make them behave in a way that Dawkin's likes. What ever happened to the Catholic Church? (Tech Eye)

Death of Dawkins forum?
One of the brightest and best atheist forums on the Internet has gone into meltdown (Ship of Fools)

Uncommon Decent (ID site) - http://www.uncommondescent.com/darwinis ... followers/

But, Dr. Dawkins, you knew they were snakes when you picked them up, why are you surprised when you get bitten? You invited them, gave them a home, encouragement, free reign, why the surprise? (Uncommon Descent)

PZ Myers - Pharyngula - http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2010 ... sucked.php

Avengelism - http://avangelism.com/blog/avangelism/t ... rum-drama/

"Regardless, there’s a certain unfortunate irony that a forum bearing Richard Dawkins’ name which evolved into a complicated and spectacular entity is now threatened with extinction because an intelligently designed forum has been created to replace it.” (Avenagelism)

Prometheus Unbound
- http://santitafarella.wordpress.com/201 ... per-place/

I hope that Richard Dawkins corrects this, and at least apologizes to the web volunteers that gave his site so many unpaid hours, but he appears to have dug in with Josh Timonen on this, and in the process he has shown himself capable of being both imperious and callous: what he writes is important; what forum contributors write is “small.” Perhaps it’s true. The average person has always been disposable. Sometimes somebody from the elite classes has to remind us of this. (Prometheus Unbound)

Eliziphanian
- http://elizaphanian.blogspot.com/2010/0 ... ition.html

Also, bluntly, if Prof Dawkins doesn't make a very strong effort to fix this - and counteract the impression that he doesn't care for all the people who have rallied to his cause over the last several years - then i) his leadership of same is over and ii) the cause he has been promoting for so long has been grievously hindered. (Eliziphanian)

Wow. The lesson here is, treat the lower orders with respect. Otherwise, they may rebel.

One suggestion. Some of the articles state that we moved to rationalia, which was true at the time. If interviewed or if you post a response to an article, please include mention of this site. I noticed the 95theses did that.

They were the first place people contacted, I believe.

My favourite was PZ Myers writing an article saying he didn't want to get involved......and then getting involved. Couldn't help himself.

The historicity of the RDF meltdown will be a good model for thinking about the historicity of biblical events. Look at how, in only two days, published accounts of the meltdown vary in accuracy. Can you imagine, 30 years from now, how distorted the "accepted" version might be?

Why oh why are all the "official" news outlets taking the "Richard stood up for his rights" line without any real research?

Because he is Richard Dawkins. :(

Because the 'beat-up' (i.e. the spat between RD and us) is more sensational than the truth. I maintain that the really interesting story to be had is: What does RD know, and what does he intend to do about it? Under that banner they can cover all the childish actions that Josh et al did during the implosion.

But you are right. This just highlights the shocking state of journalism in our dumbed down societies.

I suspect his site will attract new converts (or is that deconverts) and continue to attract theists looking to clash with the symbol of atheism. But I don't see such a tightly controlled site burgeoning these days. It is human nature to want to interact, even on science fora.

Yes, I have been scanning through the "front page" articles. the most recent ones have mustered around 15 comments, one has 40, two have none. I don't see reacting to the blogs offered as being nearly enough to stimulate the kind of far ranging interaction that is happening here.
