"Second reference" found to 2012 end of the world date...
http://au.news.yahoo.com/tech-news/a/-/technology/12055739/second-mayan-reference-to-2012-found
Mexico's archaeology institute downplays theories that the ancient Mayas predicted some sort of apocalypse would occur in 2012, but on Thursday it acknowledged that a second reference to the date exists on a carved fragment found at a southern Mexico ruin site.

Most experts had cited only one surviving reference to the date in Mayan glyphs, a stone tablet from the Tortuguero site in the Gulf coast state of Tabasco.

But the National Institute of Anthropology and History said in a statement that there is in fact another apparent reference to the date at the nearby Comalcalco ruin. The inscription is on the carved or molded face of a brick. Comalcalco is unusual among Mayan temples in that it was constructed of bricks.

Arturo Mendez, a spokesman for the institute, said the fragment of inscription had been discovered years ago and has been subject to thorough study. It is not on display and is being kept in storage at the institute.

The "Comalcalco Brick," as the second fragment is known, has been discussed by experts in some online forums. Many still doubt that it is a definite reference to Dec. 21, 2012 or Dec. 23, 2012, the dates cited by proponents of the theory as the possible end of the world.

"Some have proposed it as another reference to 2012, but I remain rather unconvinced," David Stuart, a specialist in Mayan epigraphy at the University of Texas at Austin, said in a message to The

A second reference to a date!! Oh no, we're doomed.
The problem with fantasies is you can't really insist that everyone else believes in yours, the other problem with fantasies is that most believers of fantasies eventually get around to doing exactly that.

I'm starting to worry...just looking around my house I've found five references to that date...
One is in my new work diary they gave us for next year, two others are in calenders for next year the local butcher gave us, and the other two are found on my laptop and my Acer tablet when I look at the calender and flick forward to next year!!

I'm afraid to check our big desktop computer in case I find another reference to the date there!!!

15% believe end of world coming - poll
2012-05-01

New York - Nearly 15% of people worldwide believe the world will end during their lifetime and 10% think the Mayan calendar could signify it will happen in 2012, according to a new poll.

The end of the Mayan calendar, which spans about 5 125 years, on December 21, 2012 has sparked interpretations and suggestions that it marks the end of the world.

"Whether they think it will come to an end through the hands of God, or a natural disaster or a political event, whatever the reason, one in seven thinks the end of the world is coming," said Keren Gottfried, research manager at Ipsos Global Public Affairs which conducted the poll for Reuters.

What amazes me is that the people who are all..... Ooohhh MAYAN.... all accept that the Mayan philosophy was that everything is circular and thus beginning again at the end of something. Yet that goes OUT THE WINDOW when it comes to December 2012.

Oh ffs, the date relates to the date when one baktun (or whatever it is called) ends and the next begins. Its the Mayan version of Dec 31st being followed by Jan 1st. One year ends another begins and the world doesn't end!

The mayan date is nothing to do with the end of the world and this is something thats been know about for decades. Its hardly surprising that there would be more than one reference to what is essentially a new years eve.

You joke but that was one of the excuses. One of the main proponents (who was initially contacted by the aliens from Zeta Reticuli by method of them unwrapping a starburst sweet wrapper inside a pack of sweets. Sadly i'm not kidding about this either, that is her actual claim) also claimed that the planet X date was a white lie on the part of the aliens to test our response ready for the imminent actual date.

Well, according to my quantum radiation meter (only $199.89 from 1-800-APOCALYPSE), they are well under way.
