Any other theists or religious folks out there?

#1  Postby jerome » Feb 27, 2010 3:58 am

I'm Jerome, an Anglican. Just want to make sure I greet every single believer, regardless of faith, and make sure you feel welcome and say I'll always be happy to chat if oyu have any issues drop me a pm (Same applies to atheists and agnostics of course!) . I used to have some advice for believer son RD.net but I lost it sadly, but basically, have fun!
So who do we have in the "people of faith" category?

We have no problem with you giving our theist a heads up on your site.

I can give you information on our past theist that were banned and you can invite them here.

Stipe? Champion? I actually liked The Champion - but not sure Stipe or he liked me. :) Still religious believers tend to argue far more among themselves than with the atheists: and the closer the beliefs, the more vehement the row. Get a Southern Baptist and a Baptist in a room, or an Anglo-Catholic and a Catholic! :)

I use religious terms in speech such as "God knows" or "God forbid". That's as far as I swing.

nunnington and grahbudd are here, although I'm not sure if they are "christians" in the traditional mould. I remember Nikodeimos as one of the "better" theists on RDF. His posts were usually well thought-out and interesting. I wonder if he's here though.

sigh Champion....I tried to keep him around. But no matter what I did he just fucked himself and the staff got tiered of him and he was banned. But that is one member that I really tried to work with so he would not get banned.

Well on that on our forum we have a theist only forum. Though it's not used much and it's only for theist but maybe here having a viewable only forum will give the popcorn gallery something to cheer about.

Cheer for the Baptist or the Anglo?! Fight!...lol

What's the 'traditional' mould? Is it the evangelical fundie 'mould'? If so, can you please explain to me how evangelical christianity which consists of about 1/6 of the global christian population became the 'traditional' mould?

Well, I'm a Christian believer, who is quite orthodox in his beliefs, only because I find Christianity to be true, not because I'm a model for the Christian faith. I lose my patience rather easily, and tend to be quite harsh on certain individuals. I'm unapologetically vulgar, but I'm not looking for anyone to view me as a poster boy for Christianity.

Hi Jerome

Traditional (smells & bells) Christian here. In the past I have also described myself as an atheist or as a freethinker. I'm still the latter, but have left my atheist days behind me.

Hi Jerome, marginal Christian here, on Tuesdays and Thursdays I incline more towards Buddhism, but then Wednesdays and Fridays come around, and I think, oh hell, give the Christians a spin of the wheel.

Just hoping that people like GakuseiDon and Grahbudd make it over. Still reeling from the debacle. It just proves that people are just people, I guess, kind of messy.

But not an atheist either.

Welcome aboard one and all! I am NOT a moderator in this area (or any of the religion sections - obvious conflict of interest) but I welcome you all heartily...

Why would that be? Why would a theist have a conflict of interest but not an atheist? Both can choose to be either interested parties or disinterested parties. If you would tend to be biased to one side of the argument, an atheist might tend to be biased towards the other side. It's more a matter of how much integrity you can bring to the role. I don't think it has anything to do with what you personally believe.

I wrote this elsewhere but I thought I would post it here also.

I opposed your nomination for modship on rd.net when I was an Admin. This was not personal of course, but I did not think a theist would be appropriate, even though if there was one it would be you, I was wrong to oppose. Sorry. Never had a chance to say that to you.

Hey OBC: yes I knew, but never minded at all. I think it was September 08, and I was as usual up to my neck in twenty threads, having fun. Trying to find my way round i typed "jerome" one morning to search to see where I had been summoned - ad found thread in which it was mentioned why I was not a suitable mod. :) I was going to reply and say "yeah atheist communities should be run by atheists, for obvious reasons", when I realised i was in the mod section.

I rather regret that my action instead was to pm every mod on the site and tell them that something had gone wrong and the mod section was visible to all members. Some of you may remember that morning. It might have been funny to just leave t and see how long before everyone worked out that they could see the mods, and of course the mods might not have noticed because they were by definition used to seeing that sub-forum!

Anyway I still think you had a valid point: and I still don't think I'm cut out for modding. I honestly don't feel that I personally have the qualities needed, and that is NOT false modesty: I'm just not so keen on being asked to be an authority figure, especially not on a site where i represent almost by definition "the enemy": well the enemy to the anti-theists anyway. :)

Plus my ill health really is a n issue, as is my need to devote more time to getting back to finding employment, and keeping up with my academic work, such as it is.

Anyway no hard feelings at all: as I said, I always agreed with you, so it was never an issue, and I never take these thins personally. :)
