Is God Worthy of Worship?

#1  Postby IrrationalSkeptic » Mar 20, 2010 10:19 pm

Picking up on something thedistillers said in his Atheist = Creationists thread, why would a god be automatically worthy of worship?

Urgh. Do we have to?
Assuming an all powerful creator exists, he/it is obviously a sick and twisted self centered moron for creating such a fucked up world and only deluded cretins would imagine such a being is worthy of worship.
Assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

If he existed, he would be the Universe's biggest underacheiver by a wide margin.

Do we really have to pick up on ANYTHING thedistillers says? Be careful how much attention you mind him, he might just start shooting abusive PMs your way.

Abusive PMS? That's gotta be the worst kind. I can't even imagine the cramps.

Automatically worthy of worship? No.

I would suggest that worthiness of worship is a very specific type of respect. Respect, after all, must be earned so I would say this is no different.

As such, the answer depends on his/her/its character and what they have been up to since the alleged creation event. The Abrahamic God most certainly is not worthy of my respect, whether he exists or not.

Er, which ever one/ones is apparently responsible for this fucked up planet. The nature of the argument doesn't require a specific god to be named.

thedistiller referred to the alleged creator of this universe.
But it might be more fun if we read this as "any god".

Perhaps whether he/she/it is worthy of worship by default does not. Whether they have earned it most certainly does.

I agree with this section of your statement, so I'll quote mine it.

P.S. This is an example of a quote mine, and as such it does NOT reflect the actual intention of the OP.
