Selling Your Soul To The Devil

#1  Postby aufbahrung » Nov 14, 2020 7:03 am

How much would you sell your soul for if you had one? or are you religious and wouldn't risk it? Contract with the devil on the table in front of you with only a signature and price lacking. I'm not suggesting the devil exists outside of popular culture. Pure thought experiment, here.

Bear with me, Crumple, until I get a reply to this message.
Dear R.Soul

Someone on the internet wants to know if I'd sell you to the devil, if he exists. I would, but I don't know how much I could ask for. So, waddya reckon you're worth? Please let me know ASAP, if you exist.

Regards,

Hermit

Anyone claiming to be the devil that wants to give me his hard cash in return for my soul, I'll happily take his money.

Am I allowed to sell it more than once?

If not, they can queue and we'll talk terms.

Well then I suppose first you'd have to tell me what it is and what it does, and what selling it would even mean. If you're going to propose fanciful bullshit then at least put in the minimum effort.

Ok, but we at least have a sense of what dark matter does since its existence is indicated by its effect. This analogy doesn't really tell me how life would be different without it or what that even means for me after life is ended, which is presumably when the debt would be collected. Do I at least get to know what it does before I sign it away? Is it just our disembodied personality somehow continued beyond our death even though all the things that make it aren't functioning anymore?

With the soul we have no Newton whose invented gravity yet. The circular questions and impossible diversions are endless. The breakthrough is yet to be. Same with consciousness I suppose. We know everything and nothing about it.

Watch out, Deepak Chopra. You got competition.

Ever thought of publishing your bullshit, Scrumple? Choppers makes millions out of his.

Perhaps Chopra did the devil's deal? Maybe Crumple did, too, and this thread was made out of regret that perhaps he didn't ask enough?

What’s the upside to not selling your soul. Asking for a friend.

This is the same analogy, so doesn't really tell me anything. In case it isn't clear I'm not looking for a technical manual or explanation for how it works, I just want to know what its apparent effects are supposed to be in this scenario that would be relevant to deciding whether to sign or not. You could say it's the milquetoast Western Christian idea of a soul. You could even say we're not supposed to know, and the Devil won't say. That the Devil is standing in front of me wanting my soul would beg these questions. What I decide would change depending on what answers (or lack thereof) I get.

Boredom is often inspiration for saying something in the human realm. Doesn't mean there isn't a interesting station on the radio, for the bored listeners. I consider my initial offering a effort to overcome nothing going on with 'theism' which might even be true?

The opening post is as uninspiring as anything can be on the matter. I was bedazzled by Peter Cook's take on the issue. He made a good fist of it. The German word for "fist", by the way, is "Faust".
