I don't know, as I have been saying I have never used a smartphone before. I never even wanted one until the wife said that I should have a mobile phone so she could get in touch with me whenever she wanted (that's why I did not have one before ;) ). She said that she would even buy me one. Also the sound went on my pocket puter that I used to use for music, video and web access while out and about. So I thought aha, Ubuntu touch is coming out I could use that as an excuse to myself to get a smartphone.

Another update for another update.

I am now on Ubuntu Touch Utopic Unicorn and have had a couple of OS updates since upgrading now being on 14.10(r133).

I decided to go with the developer channel of the up and coming version due to be released 14.10 as the previous version of the OS was no longer being updated. I kept getting errors when app updates were trying to be loaded so I bit the bullet and upgraded. The only problem that I came across was that my newly found ebook reader Beru did not function in Utopic. I contacted the developer of Beru on GitHub and after a few rounds of testing and several messages between us we managed to sort it. It's good to know that contacting the developer and interacting with them directly can quickly sort out problems. :)

Another update for another update.

I got Utopic r179 installed today.
It puzzled me for a while as I could no longer close apps. It used to be that you could swipe up from the bottom to get a menu that had a close option, but that went quite a few upgrades ago. Up until now I would go to the apps screen and long touch a running app to get a red X to tap on to close it. The running apps now no longer appear on the apps screen and to get them back you have to swipe from the right to get a 3D stack of them to choose from. But I just could not figure out how to close them today after the update.

Then I found this video:-

Ahhh...
Did you catch it?
You have to swipe up (or down) and away it goes.

Well, It's been a while since I posted anything about my ubuphablet so I will let anyone that is interested know that the RTM (Release to Manufacturer) v 7 is now out. I have been on the RTM releases for a while now and the latest update seems to have fixed my GPS problems. I was stuck in a traffic jam today and managed to get local traffic information appropriate to my location and sat looking at a little dot representing me on the map app sitting still on the motorway. It did not help much though as I was still stuck on a motorway for 3 hours but at least I knew why and knew how far it was to the next exit.
Ahhh, the wonders of new technology.
I am sure that any existing phablet users think that this is no big deal but hey, I am still new to this game.

I came across this video the other day and am unsure as to what to make of it.
Developer Creates Gorgeous New Radial Menu for Ubuntu Touch – Video

Apparently even Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Canonical, praised the new launcher.

I have not seen it in action on my ubuphablet yet but what to you all think is it cool or just run of the mill?

I can't find C/2014 Q2 (lovejoy) on it though :(
I was hoping that it could assist in me finding the comet.

Nice starmap!
I was thinking of getting me a ubuntu phone when they are available, Meizu is one company that will sell them.

But unfortunately I wasn’t quite good enough.

Soon...

No specific information whether that means an Ubuntu MX4, Ubuntu firmware available for MX4 and MX3, or both. I think the general expectation is for both, but perhaps the MX4 bundled with Ubuntu will be sold first and the firmware update for existing devices will come later.

Nice. Looks like a fork of Stellarium. You many have to upload an object list that contains the comet. The Stellarium website should be able to tell you how to do it.

Yes, it was inspired by stellarium and the developer is thinking of writing a stellarium backend plugin.

Dennis O'Flaherty wrote:I've been developing Réaltaí for a while and it's a fun toy, but is nowhere near as comprehensive as its inspiration - Stellarium. But hey, Stellarium is open source, so why not try getting it to run on Unity8? Maybe write a backend plugin so I can put my own QML UI on top of it?

I will ask him if object lists can be added.

Ubuntu phone Convergence

#31  Postby halucigenia » Jul 30, 2016 12:50 pm

Necro alert...

It's taken a while but convergence is now here and I have it working on my phone.

Convergence is the term that the ubuntu community are using to describe being able to use one operating system for all devices and being able to run any linux app on any device. Basically you can plug your phone into a desktop monitor, connect a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and use your phone as a desktop PC.

I had to install Libertine myself on the current release of Ubuntu touch (OTA-12 on my Nexus 4), but this will become standard on the next release.

Libre Office is a bit sluggish on my Nexus 4 but on more up to date phones that can run Ubuntu Touch (Meizu Pro 5 or MX 6) I am guessing that the experience will be better.
