The founder of Mumbai-based Peace TV Dr Zakir Naik was invited to the Maldives by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to deliver Islamic lectures under the banner “Misconceptions on Islam”. For the local population he was presented as a world renowned Islamic scholar. On his visit he, his wife and his son held lectures on 26th, 27th and 28th of May 2010.

The following transcription is the exchange between Dr Naik and one of the members in the audience at the final lecture held at the football stadium in the capital city Male on Thurday, 28th of May 2010 from 8.30 to around 12.00pm.

Following this dialogue, Mr Nazim was attacked by some of the people among the audience and finally taken into police custody. On 29th evening, the Criminal Court extended his term of detention for five days at the request of Police.
