I've been on a 10,000 Maniacs kick lately, and I wanted to share what may be the best recovery from a "whoops" that I've seen.
This is from a live performance in 2010 with Mary Ramsey as lead singer (almost 17 years after Natalie left, and about 9 years after Rob Buck unfortunately passed away).
Mary does say "whoops", or "oops" at 0:08, right? Jerry (the drummer) has a funny look on his face then and after the song Mary does not look happy at all.
But I think that it is an absolutely beautiful cover of the Roxy Music song (I really like the original too). And the last 1:15 of the song is Mary oooh-ing, ahhh-ing, and ohhh-ing while the band plays marvelously.
If only you reach your arms to me I'd be a servant to you, what doesn't a lover do Come and kill me, let this life come to an end like this I'd gladly sacrifice a thousand lifes to you, what doesn't a lover do
What doesn't this heart endure for you I'd die if you say "Die", what doesn't a lover do Come and kill me, let this life come to an end like this I'd gladly sacrifice a thousand lifes to you, what doesn't a lover do

I just realized the other day that I like this song when I heard a live version on the radio. (I had a friend in MAssachusetts who wouldn't let us listen to Bob Seger when he was around because an ex of his liked Seger and it dredged up bad memories. The same friend would ridicule Pink Floyd when we played that. Who the hell doesn't like Pink Floyd? It was funny because he'd harp on the background talking and sounds that they frequently included, especially, but not exclusively in The Wall album. He kinda had a point there. It's not like he had a bad taste in music overall, he nurtured my budding interest in Stevie Nicks, and liked groups like Til Tuesday who, while I'm not a fan per se, had Aimee Mann on vocals who I love now.)
I almost forgot about this one.
I can't listen to this song without thinking of the Seinfeld episode. "Not that there's anything wrong with that!"
Of course, I get sidetracked by the voice of Sia again. Not a fan of her wigs, or the dancing girl in many of her videos, but the music is great.
