I'm enjoying listening to this:

Live recording of Muddy Waters in 1979. YouTube thought I might like it. Well done, YouT, right you were.

I was watching a bizarre Annie Lennox video (No More I Love You's) when this popped into my head and is playing on repeat in there. It's definitely been too long since I last listened to it. I love Odds & Sods.

An address to the golden door
I was strumming on a stone again
Pulling teeth from the pimps of gore
When hatched a tragic opera in my mind
And it told of a new design in which every soul is duty bound
To uphold all the statutes of boredom
Therein lies the fatal flaw of the red age
'Cause it was nothing like we'd ever dreamt
Our lust for life had gone away with the rent we hated
'Cause it made no money, nobody saved no one's life this time
So we burned all our uniforms
And let nature take its course again
And the big ones just eat all the little ones
That sends us back to the drawing board
In our darkest hours
We have all asked for some
Angel to come
Sprinkle his dust all around
But all our crying voices they can't turn it around
And you've had some crazy conversations of your own
We've got rules and maps and guns in our backs
But we still can't just behave ourselves
Even if to save our own lives
So says I
We are a brutal kind, whoa
'Cause this is nothing like we'd ever dreamt
Tell Sir Thomas More we've got another failed attempt
'Cause if it makes them money
They might just give you life this time

{it's from their first recording, ca. 2001, and one of Mercer's finest achievements, IMO]

I hate to be that guy, but that song was on their 2nd album, 2003's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chutes_Too_Narrow

¡Ay!

That's the one with "Young Pilgrims", too, another favorite. Fate isn't what we're up against, there's no design, no flaws to find. And for the terminally melancholy, "Pink Bullets".

One of the first songs I learned to play :)

30 kilograms and 50 000 hair follices ago I used to play guitar
I can't promise you I would play Concierto de Aranjuez on first attempt, but I think I would manage with Mary Had a Little Lamb

Now I'm chilling while listening to Lenny (aslo this is one of the coolest rock riffs of early 90s rock)
