Splendid stuff. And he's a monster on the electric too, a real guitar god imo. :D

Eric Bogle originally called this No Man's Land but the Fureys version was a huge hit and this name stuck. An awful lot of people presume this song is Irish. The original lyrics for the chorus were changed by The Fureys. I always wondered whether Eric would be annoyed at the lyric change. I managed to discuss this with John Munro (Eric's regular musical partner) at a folk festival once. In fact Eric is great friends with The Fureys and was very glad for the extra recognition (and royalties!) he got through their recording of it. I think their version is great but still prefer Eric's own. Seen him live around six times - you can always hear a pin drop.

Anyway another favourite song performed by Eric is in fact a Stan Rogers song - The Lock-keeper - I love this song. Stan's original below. Superb lyrics.

If you like those, I think The Crane Wife 3 is their best:

This guy is well known in Ireland and banjo circles but probably not much outside. It's very difficult to be so clean in what he's doing without accompaniment. A small tribute to the less well known masters of their folk styles.

For those who enjoyed THWOTH's complilation of various artists performing "Girl from the North Country", here's yet another

This one is by Sam Bush, who gives it a wonderful bluegrass spin:

So I was thinking "American folk hymns" and this tune popped into mind. I've heard a million versions, but none that come close to Alison Krauss's rendition.

I also thought it was funny these are the top two comments on youtube for this video:

Gospel music is the only good thing religion has given us.

and
I hate everything about religion and I am an atheist but I love this song.
