So recently been on a Zappa kick, heard an interview with him where he mentioned Allan Holdsworth as someone around today (1987) that he actually liked. Never heard of him, so checked it out...his playing is amazing obviously, but I really like the consistency of atmosphere, and that guitar tone sounds like something Meshuggah aped:
