In a nutshell: The admins (Josh and Andrew) announced they were changing the website software and deleting the forum in 30 days. People stated that they didn't like this decision and the admins deleted 6 members and over 30,000 posts in the space of about an hour. Then they locked the forum.

EDIT: Beaten to it, ah well!

Just be aware that you'll read a bit of misinformation on the internet - some places (including RD himself) are suggesting that people got angry because of the announcement of the new forum. Obviously that would be childish and stupid, which is why nobody did that.

The anger and the split was a result of vindictive admin actions.

Yeah, just finished reading through Peter's first article on hacks post. It's a shame it's all ended up like this. I just hope the general feel of that community isn't lost forever

I know that's the sad part.. But I think if we can build this place up quickly enough, and try to get as many RDF members here before they dissipate into the ether of the internet, we might be able to retain a lot of it. We still have a lot of the big hitters and a large part of the old mod team, so I think it's looking hopeful!
