8 Tiny Feet

#1  Postby Atrax Robustus » Oct 19, 2013 6:59 am

Hi all,

I think a few here already know me. I've come to RatSkep because my usual haunts have become somewhat stale and I'm in need of stimulating reading and discourse.

I spent almost thirty years in the military where I gained two engineering degrees. In my spare time I completed a Biology degree and worked (almost ten years) in a voluntary capacity as a research assistant whenever I had the opportunity to do so. Entomology was the name of the game, but I elected to work with arachnids --- to assist in overcoming my phobia believe it or not!

I've always been an atheist. I simply cannot abide the ideas or ideologies of creationists or IDers.

Looking forward to joining in whenever I can.

Welcome! Did you overcome your phobia? My sister has/had that too. She's gotten better, but I still don't see her handling any spiders.

You might be interested in the threads linked in my signature. Lots of spider and insect pics and discussion. :)

Hi Geoff.

Safe to assume that Rule #3 applies here then?

I did! The big guys still surprise me when I don't know that they're on the prowl, but once that 'oh-shit' moment dissipates handling them isn't an issue for me.

Welcome Atrax!

Check THIS out (other follow up videos also on my channel). I also am fascinated by spiders, but I've never really had any fear of them.

First of all, welcome to our newest member. All the more so for having devoted time to studying chelicerates. :)

Of course, whilst spiders can be fascinating, there are other chelicerates to study. Though when I tell certain people about some of these, I can sense them wanting to leave the room very quickly.

Mind you, at least chelicerates have the good manners to rear their offspring as good, honest predators. Ichneumon wasps, by comparison, have a far nastier method of securing the future of the next generation. Just ask any of thousands of caterpillars what they think of this. :)

BURN IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!!

Aside from that welcome to the site Atrax Robustus, maybe you can help me get over my fear of spiders as well. Not a phobia but I hate those things.
