Well, actually, you can subscribe or add a thread as a bookmark by using the links at the bottom on your lefthand side or when you are replying, below the 'preview' and 'submit' buttons, there are several option boxes you can tick, one of them is to be notified if there are any replies in the thread.
I wonder who would do such a thing, because if every single reply were to generate a notification...?
