Hello all,

I was born in a Muslim (moderately religious) household. I was born in the USA and currently reside in Canada. I was somewhat religious as a child, and generally became less religious but I was a "Ramadan Muslim" (as some of you exmuslims or Muslims would know). I started my descent into Skepticism and Atheism (although I would call myself an Agnostic Atheist) by reading the Qu'ran (translation), and reading the Hadith. I also learned of the scientific method and how it applies to deriving facts about reality. Learning of Evolution also helped to develop my skepticism of religion/theism (creationism).

My friend (real life) posts on this forum and told me to check it out. I enjoyed the discussion on the forum, and I joined in hopes to learn and gain knowledge. I am aware that I am ignorant of many things, and I wish to learn from this community.

My interests include Philosophy, Theology, Science (specifically Biology and Medicine since that is what I study/hope to study), and Film/television.

I've actually already welcomed you in another thread but I guess I should make it official.

Welcome to the forum!

I hope you enjoy your time here.

Who's your friend?
We are alive, so the universe must be said to be alive. We are its consciousness as well as our own. We rise out of the cosmos and see its mesh of patterns, and it strikes us as beautiful. And that feeling is the most important thing in all the universe.

Welcome, TheManWithNoName!

Is a "Ramadan Muslim" like being a "cultural" Christian? I enjoy the festivities and feasts and some of the other traditions of Christmastime (decorations & and gift-giving and whatnot), for example, even though I'm a life-long atheist.

In any case, it's very nice to meet you and I hope you enjoy the forum.

I started my descent into Skepticism and Atheism

Nope, it involves higher thinking, and a tendency toward objective enquiry and investigation.

Hardly a descent, which a trip towards dogma adherance and fundamentalism could be described as, since it involves suppressing higher thought and rejecting facts and other perspectives.

Pretty much where I would only pray and read the Qu'ran doing the Month of Ramadan.

I guess I meant to say I decided to explore why people were Atheists and Skeptics.
