Republican Dennis Hof, a Nevada brothel owner and former reality TV star who died last month, was elected Tuesday to a legislative seat representing a rural southern portion of the state, according to The Associated Press.

Hof was elected to the Assembly District 36, beating Democratic challenger Lesia Romanov, an educator.

I didn't know he'd died. Don't really care either, tbh.

OMG, he was found unresponsive by RON JEREMY. What a dignified way to go. RIP asshole.

Shame another unelected Repugnant can be chosen to take his place rather than the other candidate on the ballot.

Right? He didn't carry out the will of the majority of the population, and in some cases did every last thing in his power to subvert it for every last moment that he could.

I see we've reached the point where mass shootings are so common that they go by without comment.

I was reading a story on the shooting earlier today and it mentioned that it was the largest shooting since... 9 months ago. But it only just barely edged out the shooting a couple of weeks ago. It's like reading a recap of a sporting event at this point. :nono:

Just another Wednesday in America. Unless someone can engineer a lethal virus that specifically targets Republicans, all we can do is send our thoughts and prayers.

I've heard, so it might not be true, that the dotard's first (at least very early) action was to remove some restrictions on gun ownership related to mental health.

If so, what would it take to revoke that restriction change? Another Presidential decree, a doctor's note showing how it was a plain stupid idea or something other?

I think it was a law that was passed and signed by Obama but still was under some sort of review period and he killed it.

That said, I'm not a big fan of broadly restricting gun ownership (aka a civil right in the US) based on mental health as it unfairly stereotypes the mentally ill as violent which is simply untrue. Much better would be a law which targets violent people regardless of their mental health. But that's probably getting a bit off topic.

Back to Trump and the GOP, while I may in principle agree with not limiting the rights of the mentally ill it's completely hypocritical and shows them to be completely dishonest when they constantly blame gun violence on mental illness but then are against laws that try to fix what they themselves claim the problem is. It's a case of being right for the wrong reasons.

A military vet no less. Is there any group (other than men in general) that are more disproportionately responsible for mass shootings? But ya, brown people are scary.

Optics and stereotypes aside, this bill was to restrict people who have been determined to be so incapacitated they need a guardian to manage their finances from purchasing or owning guns. Much like letting a 12 year old or 8 year old buy a gun.
We should probably go for a can of vegetables because not only would it be a huge improvement, you'd also be able to eat it at the end.

This kid survived the Vegas shooting only to be killed in the Thousand Oaks shooting.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/mother-of-thousand-oaks-shooting-victim-i-want-gun-control
The mother of a man who survived the Las Vegas shooting but was killed in the Thousand Oaks shooting Wednesday night told local reporters that she wanted policy change over thoughts and prayers for her son's death. “My son was in Las Vegas with a lot of his friends and he came home. He didn’t come home last night, and I don’t want prayers. I don’t want thoughts,” Susan Schmidt-Orfanos told local news station ABC7. “I want gun control and I hope to God nobody else sends me any more prayers. I want gun control. No more guns.” BuzzFeed News reports that Schmidt-Orfanos’ son, Telemachus Orfanos, was a survivor of the Route 91 Harvest music festival shooting last year. “No more NRA, no more money, gun control now, thank you,” Schmidt-Orfanos reportedly told the website.

That's not unreasonable. I must have been thinking of other legislation which would have prevented anybody who'd previously been committed from owning firearms.
