Texting while driving. Bad whether you're the texter or the textee. Always a bad idea. Trouble is, even if YOU don't do this, you now have to be on the lookout for what's coming at you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uG_v-n7CfRM

Caution: painful to watch. But might stop you or someone you love from doing this. Don't fool yourself. NO ONE can successfully text and drive. Not only might you kill yourself, you might kill someone else. Helluva fucking choice.

Yah. All it takes is a split second of inattention due to phone-focus.

The real kicker with this is that no matter how good we are at driving, OR the fact that we don't drive distracted like this ourselves -- we all have to be ready to take evasive action lest we get killed due to someone *else's* selfish idiocy, and may not even have enough time or any available split-second options to avoid what they've wrought. Makes ordinary everyday driving all that much riskier even when weather is not a factor. Ugh.

It should be a jail time offense, IMO. Cop should take the phone and smash it, confiscate the car, and sling them in jail for a month or two. Suspend their license for 5 years, get caught driving after it's felony prison time. Zero goddamn tolerance, there is absolutely no excuse for it. If you absolutely MUST answer the text because your mom in in hospital or whatever, pull off the road. If they did that it wouldn't take too long for most people to get the message. There'd always be the assholes who refuse to stop it, but eventually they all end up with a life sentence. Forget vehicular homicide or wrongful death, you kill someone because you were on your phone it's 1st degree, premeditated murder. Same goes for drunk drivers, show absolutely no mercy.

EDIT it's only going to get a LOT worse. Fucking car manufacturers are putting video screens in the car, you can surf the fucking web while you drive. That's going to work out well, eh?
