A Sneak Preview of a Brand New Atheist Style

#1  Postby Freethinker15 » Jul 21, 2010 4:44 pm

Hi guys,

In homage to the old RD.net forum, of which I had been a longtime member and contributor, I have decided to post a sneak preview of an atheist project that I have been working on for over a year now.

During this time, I have been sourcing t-shirt samples and commissioning pieces of artwork that fit in with my concept or fashion label, All Heathens. I now have five strong designs, which are all hand-illustrated, and a manufacture who can supply me with high quality t-shirts - not the kind you would find in your average t-shirt printers.

Here is my first design, which I have called "The Great Herding of Cats". I am extremely keen to gauge people's interest into my concept and the kind of look that I am going for so feedback is welcome.

Inside neck reads:

"It was the lack of curiosity that killed the cat.
Gray - the curious cat

A heretical new style."

They will eventually retail for £29.99, not including postage and packaging.

The website is under construction at the moment, but it will be up and running soon. If you have or know anyone who has IT skills in this area and would like to be involved in what I think is an exciting new concept, please feel free to pm me.

I will be very grateful for any feedback.

I can't get a bigger picture to pop up for me, but what I can see I like.

I personally think the price point is rather high, you might consider using a site like cafepress or printfection to get the costs down. Otherwise the concept is very good.

I'd worry about the quality from CafePress... I have had bad experiences with anything put on a shirt (or whatever for that matter) peeling off. Don't know printfection.

And if the shirt is of high enough quality, I'd be willing to battle the exchange rate even. :)

Thanks Larian. I will get up a better picture very soon.

I know what you mean about the price, but when I have the true samples up hopefully you may be able to see why. I have thought about cafepress etc but I'm looking to create a whole new independent concept that can compete with high street fashion retailers. As well as sending out a message, my aim is to make science and reason fashionable. I don't want to be all about the message at the expense of fashion. I'm primarily looking to create something I would happily wear. Too often people release t-shirts to send out a specific message and forget about the fashion.

Thanks for your comments.

How about a silk tie? I wear ties all the time (my wife buys all mine from Jos A. Bank) and I would proudly sport something that makes "science and reason fashionable". :)

Here you go, here is a better view of a female prototype. Please note that it is only a prototype and it will not be in that colour.

Meh £30 for a Tshirt?! I think twice buying one at half that cost.

Well there are a number of factors to consider, like the quality of fabric, the style and the name and its reputation. Whist I know I don't have an established name etc, I'm aiming for good quality fabric with a good cut. Furthermore, my operations are quite small and so I won't be able to benefit from economies of scale at the moment, which will of course allow me to reduce the price.

The design is kind of Three Wolf/Moon... Which is, uh, not something that fashion-minded people tend to look for unless you're going for the hipster crowd.

Congratulations on an overpriced shirt with a message of no meaning. I wouldn't buy it for a US dime.

In what way does it have no meaning?

O and remind me what is the common phrase used to describe atheist gatherings or any attempt at getting atheists to work together?

Well atm in my high street there are countless tigers and cats designs, which btw have no meaning, but that is really beside the point as fashion is not categorised by any particular design as it is whatever the fashion say it is. And at the moment cats are in fashion, but that was not my intention or my consideration.
