Clive Durdle wrote:
Multiplicity

How multiple are you?

Have you ever woken in the small hours groaning with embarrassment at the memory of something you did the night before? Or watched someone you thought you knew well turn into a stranger before your eyes?

We each tend to think that we are just one person - a single, continuous, and consistent self. But the truth is that we are each a group of personalities and we slip and slide from one to the other as we encounter different situations.

Once each personality recognises the others, they can start to recognise each others' strengths and weaknesses and between them decide which one should be in control at any time.

Multiplicity explains how personalities are made and kept separate in the human brain, how to discover it in yourself and how to recognise, identify and take control of your various personalities.

Published by Little Brown (March 2008 in UK, April 2008 in US).

Can these different personalities exist at the same time, like two people inside one body?

Do you chaps think there was no singularity before the big bang, or that singularities have space in them?

I don't think anything. I don't know what comes before the Big Bang. All we know is that the universe was in a hot, dense state which was followed by rapid expansion. There's no evidence for a singularity. There never was. It was merely a hypothesis. Another hypothesis says that the universe is infinite and rather than a singularity there was an infintiy of hot, dense matter which then expanded.

No one knows, but if you think you do know then it's up to you to provide that vital evidence and collect your shiny medal.

All that hot denseness was conscious, and that consciousness caused it to expand into the universe, and make everything on earth just right for some of that consciousness to become us, made in the image of that cosmic consciousness. It's a non-supernaturalist argument for Gawd. Or something.

Wow, wikipedia and the Stanford Encyclopedia of Navel Gazing.
Some strong sources there.

I'm wondering. Did walking exist before or after legs evolved? Did limbs evolve and and we simply used pre-existing walking floating around the Universe? Are there different modes of walking that our body uses? Can we walk and chew gum at the same time?

With walking, you mean motion right? Yubsels, it existed long before legs. As did C before brains.

What is it, if not motion?

Both are a bunch of particles moving about, just different quantities.

You can give them different names, but its still just motion. Ever heard of the phrase "swing a rope fast enough and it'll go conscious"? Google it.

There is no new "walking"-force inside legs. But at least youve made peter pan proud of you.

If it's all just particles and there's no difference, how about you give a 100 for this 5 dollar bill?

The point, if you can't discern between walking and jet propulsion I have no idea why you get out of bed in the morning.

You don't explain why walking doesn't need and extra force to explain it but the workings of the brain does (C)!

Yubs! I think you just pwned yourself!
