new film: Penrose cosmology and being misrepresented by WLC

#1  Postby skydivephil » Jan 28, 2014 11:49 am

We have made anew film in our series "Before the big bang".
The link is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM47acQ7pEQ
tinyurl.com/q2bjs6g
This film is centred around an interview with Sir Roger Penrose discussing his new comsological model:CCC.
The aim of the film is to explain the model to the layman and answer some of his critics.
One section though that may be of extra relevance here is that William Lane Criag appears to have considerbaly misrepresented what the model says in order, I guess, to fit in with his Kalam argument.
This is discussed by Sir Roger about 20 mins into the film.
We hope WLC gets exposed on this, if you agree please tweet the link, like it on youtube or send it your favourite blogger. It would be a shame if this not pointed out to the public especially as Criag has a big debate with atheist cosmologist Sean Caroll coming up.

WLC in misrepresenting science shocker. Who'd have thought it?

One question, how can time have begun (to exist) in any meaningful sense?

Well there needs to be a time before time when there was no time from which point after time began.

Stil want a serious answer to my question though.

I'm not sure you'll get one. I can't think of it in any meaningful way either. And not just time, anything else. Everywhere I look I see a continuum with no beginnings or ends.

My point exactly.

Even if there is a beginning, I don't understand making the terminator something which exists outside of time (whatever that means) and making it atemporal. Putting it outside of time and space puts it outside of causality so trying to grasp how it could itself be a cause, the cause, makes my brain hiccup.

I guess this is where, with a sleight of hand, some people turn a how question into a why question and leave the exact why (motive) up to ways that are rather mysterious. But I'm sure that's what they call a "bait 'n' switch", is it?

Yes. All of the apologetic arguments that attempt to disprove the possibility of an actual infinity rely on the difficulty one has in forming a mental concept of something that is infinite. However, I find it, if anything, more difficult to imagine something like a beginning to time, or a "nothing" that exists until "something" is created.
